The win9x kernel can't properly use more than 256MB of memory. That's possibly what your problem is....depending on what you mean by your system doesn't run right.

i get a message:first the windows registry checker window comes up, it says:windows encountered an error accessing the system registry then another window comes up and says: ddhelp caused an invalid page fault in module ddhelp.exe at 01b7:010037fe

Is the limit not 384Meg? I'm positive it's more than 256......

BTW if you want to run buckets of memory, get Windows2000.....

Windows sucks in general in managing memory. You wanna be stuck in the sandbox with the little kiddies, then continue using Windows. You wanna play with the big boys, Linux is the ticket.

That sounds like a problem with the registry and NOT the memory. I'd suggest you get your hands on a registry checker, and see what it says.

And Alex99, Linux ain't all that. It's nowhere near as user friendly as Windows, and neither Linux or W2K game half as well as 98SE.

I have 512 meg of Crucial 2100DDR Cas 2 and Win 98SE without any problems. I had my vcache and virtual memory settings previously adjusted though. Vcache min69632 and max69632, chunk block1024. Virtual memory min and max at 300.

It does sound memory unrelated...

I got 512mb in my Win98 system and windows WILL use it all.

Your problem could be memory related.

I have 2 supposedly idendical Crucial PC133 256mb chips.

One of them will do CAS2 at a 150fsb, but the other one gives
me errors like the ones you describe. This also happens if
both are in the machine. At CAS3, it is 100% stable at the
150fsb with all 512 in. Runs table at CAS2 if I turn the fsb
down to 140....

Try CAS3 and see if your problems go away.

Windows 9x and Me will handle up to 512 mb of ram without any problems or modification, you only need to tweak when exceeding this amount.

I would consider restoring the file that displays the error messge with a clean version from your Windows CD, and see what happens then

Yes I installed a second 256 meg stick of PC 133 in my dads system. His board is an Abit kt7a. There was a very noticible difference in windows alone by running 512megs vs 256megs. Not to mention it cutt his bootup time down a lot as well. And there are no stability problems at all.

Windows 98 can addres up to 2gb of RAM. But after you hit 1.5gb of RAM it will not boot and if it does it causes tons of errors..
