I am in the market for a new sound card.
Which of these 2 is better and are there some other cards in this price range (~50 bucks), that I should consider?

I just got the Fortissimo II best $60 I ever spent! it has a optical out plug for my mini disc and a rear speakers jack, headphone jack, Mic jack, Front speaker jack, And it's a cool card! Unreal Touranament sounds sooo good with Eax turned on!
I also have the FortissimoII, and I love it! :D
I've got a Fortissimo and it works well. For the same price it gives you optical i/o that can be useful. The only thing I don't like is its low preamplification respect of my old sb vibra: I've got to set al the volume sliders to abt 80-90% and still have to lift the speakers volume a lot...
But audio quality is very good.

yeah I remember you saying I would like it! And I do! the only little thing I have with the sound card is the Line In...input.... in order to have it work you have to click on the little speaker incon in the taskbar. And the click on recordeing and then select Line in which will give you sound..... it was really a pain in the ass as I was takeing stuff from my mini disc and the sound was hiting the Peak sound limit in cool edit 2000. Their has to be another way.....

I tryed hooking up a rear speaker... To the rear speaker plug....I could hardly hear any sound :( which made me think it needs it's own amp or get a 4.1 speaker setup..

Have you turned the volume up for the rear speakers?

all the way....you remember me showing you the speaker I wanted to hook up to it......at first I thought that the rear speaker jack did not put out much...But when I put in some headphones it sounded allmost the same......I can't get it to sound like my front speakers....I want the rear speaker to blast out sound........
