Aren't tiny little satellite dishes as good-if not better than those things?

Yes, these thing were on C-band I believe, and most of today's satelites use Ku-band.

lol, that is a fantastic gift, except for the cost of taking it to the Dump when his wife tells him its an eye sore in the back yard
What are you going to using it for?
Take it to a recycling center or somthing, or you can get a projector with a fisheye lense and have a dish gaming center. Good price on it! DOnt pitch it!!!

man I hope my G/f gets me something that cool for my 23rd
though I am sure I would have to toss it in the near future anyway :( all cool things seem to be "trash" to other people,
You SO have to hunt down a OLD Zack Morris* style Cell Phone,
*Zack Morris was the Main Char. in a TV show Called Saved By the Bell in the Early 90's
You know what I see?? The best WiFi antenna on the block!!
Get two of those and have awesome range.

I second the wifi dish. Nice range increase. You could have a lan party from across town.
get another one of those things, weld them together, cut a hole in it, put a seat in the hole, and prepare for lift off.

i was thinking getting another one, replicating something to connect the two and make a large sphere, then suspending a seat in the center
talk about the ultimate rush....

I remember having one like that yrs ago. with the right reciever you can get like 11 satellites ,over 500 channels of tv from around the world....free of course.Something to be said about that "old" technology.

do you have any information on the kind of receiver someone would need to get the dish to work?

mount that thing on your car and wardrive a while.. :D
seriously, in some cities there are groups that maintain (free) public wireless internet. You could always try to set something up along those lines.

Thats the first thing that came to my mind. Makes a cantenna look like a piece of junk.
