when i put in the extra stick of 256 ram on my system i get these messages : i get the windows registry checker window ,it says windows has encountered an error accessing the system registry then in another window it says ddhelp caused an invalid page fault in module ddhelp.exe at 01b7:010037fe in another window it says explorer caused an invalid page fault in module (unknown) at 0000:00000001
What your problem is, is that Windows 98 is only capable of handling 384 megs of ram. Anymore than that and it doesnt know what to do with it. Windows 2000 can handle over a gig. And as far as I know from what I have read, Windows ME can be set to run on a gig of memory as well. I dont know if there is a hack or anything that can be done to Windows 98 that can make it handle more than 384 megs of ram.

Win ME is going to have the same limitations as Win 98 cause they're both based on the win9x kernel. But yes, that is certainly the problem (assuming you had about 256MB in before that)

I have 512 meg of Crucial 2100DDR Cas 2 and Win 98SE without any problems. I had my vcache and virtual memory settings previously adjusted though. Vcache min69632 and max69632, chunk block1024. Virtual memory min and max at 300.
It does sound memory unrelated...
...uhhh deja vu
