View Full Version : Build me a UNIQUE full tower. Raise the mobo.

The search for a unique tower design has left me exhausted. I want something that--as far as I can tell--isn't made.
Every full tower case design places the bottom edge of the mobo against the "floor." Not only does this make it further (longer cables) from the highly utilized upper bays, it leaves the only good open space (for WC components) sandwiched between the mobo and the PSU. This bites mightily. At the very least, I don't like it.
Does anyone know of a full tower case that keeps some space between the mobo and the "floor?" So far it seems the easiest course of action is to take a mid-tower and build a "basement" under it. This means good-bye to the slick look of continuous sides and front.
I'm fairly handy, but I don't have a sheetmetal shop. Any ideas would be hugely appreciated.

It sounds like a great idea actually. Couple things though. If you use a full tower and someone how the mobotherboard tray and the pci slots upwards then that could work. But if you want to try to take a mid tower and add a bottom to it, you would need a new side panel so it can go on the case. Maybe you could just make yourself an external box. :eh?:

Look at the pictures of this case, it has the mobo up towards the top with spaces for the psu and the like underneath.

That case has the motherbaord spaced off the bottom of the case to make room for a second PSU in the bottom. If you don't install a second PSU then you have free space.

Some serious high dollar rigs there, but this is just the kind of configuration I was thinking of. The LL case is a tad small for what I have in mind, but it just might work, and it has a rockin' look to it. Also, if I can squeeze my idea into it, those wheels will be perfect.

You could always get yourself some metal and start fabricating something. If you want something unique, you generaly have to build it yourself.
Besides, building your case entirely from scratch earns you the title of hardcore. :attn:
Hmm that Lian Li would be SICK if it was a full tower and um.. didn't cost more than my A64 :-/
It just screams watercooling and with the AGP card up a smite you would actualy be able to see the waterblock

They make a fulltower version of that Lian Li, the V2000/B. I just got the V1200B, same as above but it can fit an EATX mobo and oversized PSU. Though I can't really say much other then that as the rest of my system hasn't arrived yet.

ya the v1000 is one of the best cases for w/c imo since it has that seperate section on the bottom. That is a good idea about the mobo and all that
id like the stacker but its too expensive
Wow that case is friggin sick! Man it's pricey thou! No way I'm spending 270.00 on a case.

I did jsut this with my last two cases. you need at least a server tower, no mid tower will do. I actually need to make a thread on my case. its pretty cool. not a thing on it unmodded.
here is the first one I did, had a 1/12hp compressor and watercooling. chieftec case (steel)

that was jsut spacing it out, jsut had cut everything, the final shelf panel fit perfectly and had no holes in it ;)
my next post will be the one I just built. full server case (wide) from ebay. $75 shipped, later got $50 for the massive psu it came with.
