sup...i have a western digital 120g se and its in an usb enclosure, i was just wondering how would i go about lowlevel formating it...writing it to zeros? and is that the same thing?

Yes, writing zeros to the drive is the same thing for ATA drives. (SCSI has low level format but the actual sector size and defect list can be changed or recreated during the format).

Your best bet is to get some type of data erase utility. They generally follow the Defense Department's standard of write all 0's then 1's then 0's but in any case all data will be gone and the drive will have been thoroughly exercised.
