New Rig For Friend

hey guys im getting ready to build a buddy of mine a new pc. he wont wait for nforce4 because he wants the rig to be able to play half life 2 when it comes out, and with the release date of november 12th we really need to start goin on this heh. The budget will be about 1300 or so, no more plz. Heres the delima tho. A buddy of mine, i wont mention any names even though he has a huge thread (caugh caugh sentential) is having major problems with his new s939 rig because of his psu. I dont want to build a new rig for my friend if hes gonna have major problems like this. I dont think he should go 754 either because its out dated a64 technology. Although socket a is getting extremely old and out dated, here is my thought. If he goes socket a, we can build him a really nice rig for a decent price, and once nforce4 comes out, he can sell his mobo and cpu and simply buy a new nforce4 and a nice winchester. I dont want to build him a new rig thats outdated, but im afraid if he goes with a new 939 that it wont run well because of the psu issues, and if he goes a64 754 then hes basically buying a more expensive version of a sock a because as ive read, dont quote me on this but a 2.4ghz a64 is comparable to a 2.7ghz socket a. with that being said why pay the extra. RAHH what do i do. hes insisting that he has a comp before november 12th up and running

so what exactly is his vid card situation, you do realize that nforce 4 is pci-e only, which means that if you build a socket a system and get an agp vid card to go with it you're going to have to get rid of that too when he upgrades to nforce 4.

BTW I believe the only reason some people might have PSU problems is because their PSU's are underpowered. If you're building a new system and get a nice ocz powerstream or fortron in the 500-550w range I don't really think you would run into those problems.

I would say to just get a good psu and pair it up with a nice s939 nforce3 board and a winchester, then grab an agp vid card to go along with it. Pci-e vid cards perform the same as their agp counterparts right now and its going to be a while before pci-e graphics perform better than those in agp.
