I'm seriously thinking about upgrading to a 1.4GHz Athlon... but there are so many mobo options.. and so many upcoming releases. I'm not sure what to do. My current config is a P3-600E slot1 cpu on a soyo 6ba+100 (bx raid) with 512 pc133 cas 3. I also have a Geforce 2 GTS 32mb. This thing doesn't cut it anymore. How much of a performance increase should I expect? What's the best athlon mobo and ddr memory? Thanks

Actually, one of the main reasons why I want the Athlon is because it is significantly cheaper than a P4. The only components I would get is the CPU, Motherboard, and ram (if I get a ddr board). I would use my hard drives, cdrw, dvdrom from my current system.

You will most likely need a new Power Supply. What is your current power supply, 250 watt? 300?

Athlon 1 Ghz and higher will need at least a 300 watter for, you might get away with a 250 watter, but strongly not recommended.

The case I have now is a pretty big case. It contains a 300 watt powersupply. I purchased it last year but I forget what brand/model is this case.

The case I am using is the FK-320. A review can be found here.

However, mine is off white color.

if your realy looking for a cheep solution get a 5letter amd 1ghz cpu so i think u can get like 1.5ghz+ if your going to extrme...if u get a 1.4ghz your not going to have as high % overclock maby 1.6-1.7 with it and require more powerfull cooling then the 1ghz

make sure it says Y in the steeping code there better overclockers the numbers like 9 in the code....if soembody has that table on how to identify a cpu that would be realy helpfull
