I'v finaly gotten fed up with windows ME and all it's "blue glory" .

Things I'v learned about ME that you might want to know:
-It's not all that bad
-four out of five installs don't work and crash all the time; reinstall and try try try try try again

Reasons for going to 2000
-The os has matured to the point where it's worth upgrading to with no major OS bugs; they'v been worked out,I hope :)

-Need to learn how to network 2000

-more reasons to come....got to work :( errrr

W2K is the second best OS Microsoft has ever turned out.The best being gool ol DOS :D

From someone who just switched back to Me from Win2k after using the latter for months...

My video and sound are much better (faster, smoother and cleaner and clearer) with Me than Win2k, but on the other hand, i DID learn alot about using Win2k.

Enjoy the journey.

I made the move a few months ago. It may be a good idea to take a look at the Microsoft "Hardware Compatibility" database to make sure that your hardware is supported. Make sure that you have the current WIN 2k drivers for all of your hardware as well, although 2k does include most of them.

I think that you'll find the network a breeze to set up, it just about sets itself up.

Why don’t you set up a multi-boot system? That way you can still take advantage of some of the features of WIN ME. You may also need it for some hardware / application support, I can't get my scanner to work under WIN 2K.

It is much more stable and the GUI is so similar that most people wouldn't know that they were on a different o-s.

Good Luck!

i used both os already........for some reason i cant burn ANY cd in WIN ME.........this is a pain in the a$$ as i need to unplug my cd writer and bring it to my other comp to burn cds.......but i m still using win me since it's very very stable(no crashes yet) after two weeks of using(around 50 program installs.......and stuff like that)
win2k runs faster and is just as stable as win me so when i get time i need to switch back.....

I have used all the Operating systems windows sells...

I find it funny that WinMe gets such a bad rap,,,The issues with Me are 99% of the time The Installer of the O/S multiplied by that persons effort to get the very latest Certified Drivers for each device in the system.

I build and sell systems And have Never had WinMe create such a problem that I discarded it.Mypersonall System See sig Is on Me and It is used for games and a busines answering system That is on 24 hours a day 7 days a week with no reboot in a long time.

All window systems have some hardware thay will not play nicely with,But this is all operating systems not just WinMe.And remember this is an Improved 9x platform not a New Wheel.

The Key to all windows and any other O/S is DRIVERS,DRIVERS,DRIVERES...And an installer willing to spend some time getting the correct drivers for his hardware.

Look into WinXP Home, all the benefits of WinME gaming/ performance and the stability of Win2000. M$ is not ALL that bad!!

Running XP Pro here - sweet as a nut, even more stable than win2k provided you dn't edit .css files in frontpage 2000!!!!

Back to the hardware compatibility. If you have the HD space and a little time you might want to do a dual boot system. This will alow you to maintain a working machine in case you need to DL new drivers. If all goes well and no hitches then you can format and go for the fresh install.
