i have a cheep aluminum case with a plastic window on the side and i was thinking of doing some kind of frosted picture on the side. has anyone done anything like this and what product did you use, and was it used on glass or plastic. pictures of results would be cool too.

An applique will give you the most uniform effect for the lowest cost and hassle. I've tried using a rotary tool, sandingd and a number of other methods and I find them to be more labor intensive than I can stand. However, if you have too tight of a budget, a rotary tool with an etching bit (assuming your already have both) is a fair option.
If you have steady hands...

you could tape the window, then cut out the thing that you want etched, then use a sand blaster and go over it until you have the opaqueness that you want...
or just pay optimus primes girlfreind to do one for ya... :D

Oh I dunnoif this would give you the look your looking for, but I was trying to clean my plexiglass window ,and I put some goof-away on a towl ,and did not no that it would make it rough. You could do that with a templet I guess. Worth a try. Note: That i ruined window but i was trying to clean it so I just made it worse :)
