I want to get my parents a LCD for X-mas and thus need a DVI card. They don't do any 3d related stuff so all I need is a good 2d quality and decent DVD playback. I'm leaning towards an older Matrox card but any suggestions would be appreciated.

You could just get them a DVI to Analog converter.

Cheaper ATIs work quite well. Everything from the Radeon 7000 and up (BBA) came with dual heads. 1 DVI 1 Analog.

I bought one of these, and like it a lot. I've not used the DVI yet, but look forward to it.

Hmm there is a lot of Mx4000 around here. I will also checkout the old radeons. Somehow I got the impression most of them had only analog output.

The crappy ones, that were not made by ati where cripped with only an analog output. Like I said everything past the radeon 7000 has been dual head. Im sure you can pick one up for next to nothing.

If you are looking for the absolute highest quality 2D and DVI output, I would recommend getting a Matrox Parhelia. Not only does it have some of the cleanest 2D quality available, it supports 3 displays and has great 2D drivers and DVD playback.
