where do i find my cd-keys for games already installed. Yes, I really did lose the case, and I'm going to need my cd-key after i reformat. Is that something I can find in the registry? (I'm really not asking for a key, i promise!

As long as you dont directly ask for CD-Keys, don't be so ashamed. You should be able to find your CD-Key(s) in your Windows Registry.

In the Start Menu, click Run, and type in regedit, then hit enter.

From here, expand the branch:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>(your game's develiping company I.E., GOD Games, id, Activision)>(your game's name)

Games vary conciderably from developer to developer, so some will be in that directory, some will be in further subdirectories. Some won't be in the Registry at all. If you can't find it in the registry, it could be in one of your game folders. What game are you looking for the CD-Key for? Perhaps I could give you a more exact location.

It will either be in the registery of in a file in the ganmes folder, what game is it for and I might be able to tell you where to look

I'm sorry, but I was unable to find the location of the Half-Life CD-Key. It's not in the registry, and there are far too many files in the game directory to go sifting through them all with a text editor. Sorry. =(

If you registered the product with Sierra, then perhaps you might be able to get them to help you out.

There are lots of possiblities. It might be in the registry...
It might be in a configuration file of the game...

REMEMBER, however, that it may well be not stored in ANSII format so you might well have BIG problems reading it (of cause, it might not be stored at all!)
