GeForce 6800 Ultra(256MB RAM - GDDR3) [400/1100] - [256-16x1]
or
GeForce 6800 GT(256MB RAM - GDDR3) [350/1000] - [256-16x1]

is the 50mhz in core speed make that much of a difference, enough to justify paying 150-200$ more for? how hard it it to take the gt to 400mhz? also is there nay other differences between the two interms of spesial filters, abilities, etc.? whats the top potential for each card?

The vast majority of GTs hit ultra speeds and beyond, so its a moot point. If you want the best OCing 6800 card, definatly get the Ultra. Otherwise dont bother

Ultra top potential: 450 | 1250 (average)
GT top potential: 415 | 1150 (average)

I say get the 6800 GT OC from BFG. It is 370/1.00 default. These are the GT's i've seen clocked the highest, and they obviously have more potential to go higher as they've been marked "Overclocked" right on the box. Of course your milage may vary, but they sell them at Fry's for $399.99 which is the same price they have a regular 6800 GT for. Plus the dual fan + Blue LED's are puuurty :)

Edit: This is what i bought and i did the 1.4v BIOS flash mod, and i'm cruising along at Ultra+ speeds.

how is the fact that they have alredy been overclcoked make them have a higher potantial. They just oced then 20 over and you get it and just finish it off and push it to 400, wouldnt it be the same as buying a non oced one and just going to 400 in 1 step instead of them doing half of it and doing half??

thanks for advice

Depends how far you want to overclock. Ultra definitely has more potential and it's got 1.6ns ram compared to the 2.0ns ram of the GT.

yea, the bfg isn't necessarily a better o/c'er....if you really want a good 6800gt get the gainward 2400/ultra, its a gt already clocked at ultra speeds with really good speed binned ram and selected cores and it is warrantied at ultra speeds for like 20 dollars more

Thats with stock cooling, if you cool it further with a water block 450 is average IMO

yup thats the one, check out some reviews and tell me the measley 20 mhz on the bfg compares to a GT being clocked at ultra speeds and still having a warranty

yup yup... the gainward golden sample is the ONLY 6800GT that is guarantee to o/c to Ultra specification, and the ONLY 6800GT that still has warranty when o/c to Ultra specification.

since they use exactly the same core, just from a different spot on the baord, then go for the GT and overclock. they just pull the ultra chips from a better spot on the board, so they can clock higher and stay stable. so with teh GT, you'll have the same architecture, and since you can OC past the standard speeds of the Ultra, it'll do you just fine for quite awhile.

Hey man. the GS from Savastore doesn't include the DOOM3. Why not give a try to http://www.microdirect.co.uk/productlister.aspx?GroupID=342
I Bought it from microdirect. fast delivery. and it just 323 pound with the DOOM 3.
If you want to buy the best GT. I recommend the GOSE LIKE HELL version
which avaliable in www.overclockers.co.uk but it costs 370 pound. it has 1.6ns and enhanced mode is 400/1200. I am sure you can clock it up to 430/1300 with Gaindward stock cooling heatsink and fans

so, the only difference is on the GT the ram is clocked at 1200mhz vs the ultra which is at 1100mhz. And the ultra is like 20$ more so whats up with that. The tricked out GT is clocked faster, has same 1.6NS DDR3 memory and is a bit cheaper. Better contender hands down or what?

also are those prices in euros or pounds? incedentaly what woudl they be in $? a euro is about 1$ so if so then those are really good prices!!

ultra 390.00 Euro = 505.07 US Dollar
