These are the boards that I've used XP-Mobile Barton 2400+ on with no problems
You won't need to mod the CPUs to MP on any of these boards, just set the multiplier.
Tyan 2466N, 2466N-4M, and 2469 K7X Pro
Gigabyte GA-7DPXDW-P
Asus A7M266-D rev.1.04
*The Asus does give me an error at POST if I mod to 17x or higher,
I need to go into BIOS and tell the CPU speed, after that it's stable

If you mod the multiplier to 16x you shouldn't have any problems
If you go higher, you will need more Vcore.

OOPs after all that I realized that you have a desktop 2500, I need to read closer.
They are a little more difficult to mod for use in MP.
They have a 166 FSB (DDR333) but Dual Athlons run at 133 FSB (DDR266)

I was thinking about doin this (http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/20041001/athlon-underclocking-02.html) , thought it might be a nice testing experience/nightmare =)

I've never converted a desktop XP into a mobile and tried that
If you do this, there are a few Dual Athlon boards that won't work.
Iwill, MSI and Chaintech require the the 3rd L5 bridge be open
The boards that I listed above will work with the "Mobile" bridge closed
Here (http://forums.2cpu.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=52721) are all the boards that I've tried with mobiles

Well you could just try to mod the multiplier.

Also, that THG article is yet another one of theirs that is underachieving. I could get a barton to draw less power at 1GHz than they did at 300MHz....simple stuff, software undervolting. They seem to have never heard of the utility. And yeah, I did this about two years ago.

Trouble with desktop bartons though, is that I believe L3 is ignored. So to get the speed you want, you need to ultimatly use software to make it happen. I modded some bartons and pallys a while back.

Using L5 mods to mobile you can control multilplier in windows. Another method is to mod to mobile and set L6 to proper multiplier for machines that boot off L6 when modded mobile.
