Mousepad to mod!

I want to mod 4d Steelpad (http://www.steelpad.com)!!! I'm very pleased with it's gliding and want to mod it without loosing it's properties. can you give advice how can i make a picture on it saving it's surface? Any other ideas are realy welcome! thanks.

The only way I know of doing it would be putting some sort of dye in it...

i've got a few more:

get a blue/red sharpie and make it a red or blue steel by just marking over the top

raise it on some thick feet (some of those semicircular rubbery ones would be adequate) and use an old case's frontside USB/audio ports... and the PCB and wires attached to them, and affix them to the space you've created on teh underside of the pad - one wire (bundle them together) goes back to the case, and onto your mobo, and there you've got new audio/usb ports to use right by your mouse ^^

... granted you may lose the functionality of some/all existing usb ports on your case, depending on how many pins your mobo has for them, but why use frontside case usbs when you got em on your fancy mousepad eh?
