View Full Version : 9800se@pro vs 6600 non GT(agp)
price is almost same here(europe), looks like this:
6600 non GT ~180$
9800se ~ 200$
9800pro ~ 315$
6600gt ~ 285$
6800le ~ 325$
this 9800se got 256bit bga samsung 2.8ns or 2.5ns ram, and its rv360... unlocking 4 pipes and making it 9800pro is very easy and many ppl did it already...
i want some fast answer :D also are there any benchmarks with both 6600non GT and 9800pro?

What's wrong with the 9800pro? it is still a very viable card, I wouldn't buy a 128 bit version but a 256 bit performs very well.

9800pro for 315$ Thats insane...i got mine for like 195$. Is it a 256mb version or 128?

9800Xt for $315.00 maybe but I have seen 256mb versions going for $275.00 at newegg.

I don't agree at all. The 9800 Pro 256bit 128mb version is a very capable card, either you got a lemon, or something else is wrong with your system.
You got a wacked 9800 then...i can run 1024x768, 2xfsaa and 2xaf, with all settings to max 60 - 80 fps no overclock

yea i can get that too 80-100 everything on max with aa and af, but dude that ****! how are you suppose to play when it comes to the action and you drop from 80 to 30... dude 60-100 is not good. 130-150 steady is good and at hardcore action, the lowest 75. now thats a good card. when i can find that i will be happy. i reinstalled drivers and i am trying the omega drivers. i am punching out a little more but not much. just disapointed with the card. i guess i was all excited expecting some sort of miracle card.
I feel ya man....it drops like that for me too. Although it doesnt dip to low...maybe to 40 with 4 people on screen. I take quality over framerate so i couldnt stand making it any lower...does it look ok on 800x600? Im used to 1024x768...

800x600 is better, but its still crap. still drops to 40 when its busy. i am just not happy. am gonna return it and get x800 256. way better..

I dont see why it should drop so low, there is something else wrong. Also, can you really see 150fps? Ive tested, and 70ish is my max.

i dont understand wat your saying. "can you see 150fps?" i dont understand that question. elaberate on that bud. i think my main problem were my drivers. i had the catilyst drivers, but they were running crap. i just installed omega drivers. they seem to be working better. how are the omegas? are they good? or is more personal preferance? i am @ 1024rezy and i am on pretty much all low settings with AA and AF on 2x. my fps are from 130-140 and drop down when action happens to about 55-60 now. but i still am not satisfied. like i said earlier or in another post. i was expecting the world from this card and it didnt deliver, thats why i am so upset. i was too hyped about it. everyone said it was amazing. but its just average. so when i can pony up some dough i will get the x800. untill then , let the games begin.
cheers.
Jon.
edit: if your saying that 70ish is your max on a 9800pro, then bud you got worse problems then i do...LOL :p
Its not the effect of seeing the high frame rate, its how fast your computer will respond. Try settings a frame limit to lets say...30? And try quickly aiming at something, then turning the limit off and see how much easyer it will be
back to main topic, should i get it or wait 1 month for 6600non GT? i am asking cuz that moddable 9800 is pretty limited, only few shops got it(one with rv360 instead rv 350... ram is 2.8ns, 700mhz max according to manufacturer site) and ppl are getting them like mad so i got like 3 days to buy or wait for 6600agp :santa:

That is a ridiculous statement, your card must be screwed or something. So many people own 9800 pros becuase they are a great quality card, my xt runs cs source fine. It must be a problem with your system or drivers, dont blame a quality card for your poor performance.

nothing wrong with my system. i just built it, it has new fresh copy of xp pro. nothing wrong with my system it runs peak. there is nothing wrong with my video card either you right. like i said in previous posts. its not the card, i was just expecting more out of it. the card is performing like it is suppose to when i compare it to anyone else who has the same card. although it wont over clock much? i can only hit 395/375. wont go much higher without artifacts.. you guys got some better o/c speeds.... let me know. thanks

exactly, you were expecting too much. while a x800/6600/6800 will run better than it, it still has the best price to performance ratio! (except the 6600 which we are still waiting for agp).

any overclocking speeds i can compare too?
I get 415/375 with stock cooling and no ramsinks

As for the topic at hand...
I love my 9800pro. I highly reccomend it!
Just for comparison, I can run my pro at 450/750 for gaming... perfectly stable. I can bench it at 475/800 right now, however this weekend I'm looking for 480/825

I love mine, havent tried cs:source though
I wouldnt say the 9800Pro is a crappy card, It owns the nVidia cards of the same generation, Alot of people have them because they are very stable good performing cards, that are a reasonable price
I can get 423:367 on mine
Dont know where your getting the 315 on the 9800 pro here (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-297&depa=1) is the All in wonder 9800 pro on Newegg for 241 and

Personally i like 60fps constant. 50fps doesnt interfere but 40fps starts getting noticable.

My 9200se runs CSS with max settings and 1024X768 res..and i get constant 32 fps and i get no dipping to low fps or anything and im always top 3 in every server i play on. I use no AA or AF though games looks amazing still.

My 9800 Pro runs 1280x1024 with mostly high settings just fine (don't think it ever dips below 40 fps). I have it flashed to XT and for just general use/gaming I have it clocked at 430/390.
My BBA 9800pro 256 bit clocked to only 405 out of the box on stock, but once i added a vga silencer to it it went straight to 440/400 with some ramsinks. Flashed it to the new Sapphire 128 mb XT bios *mine has a rv360 core* and she purrs like a kitten. Runs cssource just fine too. sure, it slows down a little in hard core firefight but not enough to go out and say my $250cdn card blows <_< you try to get a x800pro or xt here and its $550-$850. its retardedly overpriced for somthign that will be $300 next year....
Personally. i woudlnt add one of these new cards to current machines with agp. they are just too slow to take advantage of them. x800xt on a nforce 4 with 3ghz athlon 64. now your talking..
as for the 6600vs9800..i think i would still go 9800. its cheaper and i dont liek the idea of buying a nerfed card <_<. of course. 6600GT sli is promising for the upgrade path concious.

Is it just me or does this guy sound like a complete noob or something? :p
My 9700pro plays Doom3 and CS:S just fine @ 1024x768 2xAA 2xAF and i get like 80fps. I usually play @ 1280x960 and get 40fps i like the higher reso better.
