Guys,

I am about to set up two raptors on raid 0, i will use the ICH5R over the promise controller, the question is how do i set it up. I think i need to enable the ICH5R for raid in bios and enable the bios for that, do i need to connect both drive to SATA 1 and 2 not Raid 1 and 2 (i guess these are for the promise ?), are both drives set as master or one slave one master etc ?. I have built the floppy disk which i need to use when installing windows (f6), do i need to install the main app accel driver onto windows also after the xp install or will all the files get copied during the F6 part ?

also what stripe size are people using ?, 128 ?

Thanks

You are right about the BIOS part, you have to enable the SATA raid option. Master / Slave is no problem with sata since thre can be only one drive per channel.

Connect the drives, set the bios, reboot, enter RAID bios, set up array. 32 / 64k stripe size is most common, i am using 64k. The speed difference is minimal.

You will need the driver disk when installing XP, im not sure if the app acc. offers a big improvement afterwards.

The install procedure will copy the necessary drivers during setup. The ICH5R will perform its best for a desktop setup when using a 128K stripe & 4K clusters in Windows XP.
