Ok I just got a bfg 5900ultra 256mb and did a reformat. I get 17,300 3dmark2k1 and 6000+ in 3dmark03.

My problem is i wanted to play doom 3 at smoother frames than my 9700pro. Yet my 9700pro would get 42fps in the timedemo and this 5900ultra on gets 30-34fps. I thought geforce's were faster in doom3. Also in certain lights and when i shoot have the time frames go from 60 straight down to 29-30. <-- This is the problem i am having.

I also haven't used a geforce since my geforce2mx days.

Any help or suggestions would be nice. Tanx. :p

1. Flash your card to FX5950 Ultra, SEE HERE (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=170345).

2. Update your drivers. (I use 66.77)

3. Download Coolbits: overclock card, use Detect Optimal Frequencies.

4. Set mode to Performance, disable V-sync.

5. Tweak DOOM SEE HERE (http://ucguides.savagehelp.com/Doom3/FPSVisuals.htm).

This should get you going!

42fps with a 9700 ain't bad, I believe I got 37fps with the 9600XT on high settings. I'm trying to remember what I got as highest? I swear it was high 40's???

Anyway....37fps with a 5900U? :D

I thought you were using a duron 750, like I had to do before the 2400+ came. But heck, you have a 2500 barton!

Without any tweaking at all, you should beable to get 50+ fps with that 5900U. I get 57fps and beyond without any tweaks, although I did raise the gamma.I was going to say PSU, but that is powerful as well..I'm going on a 350 PSU.:(

You can tweak doom 3, just do a search on doom 3. My fps stays at 80-155, I think that is medium settings though.

GEK that tweak helped alot. Don't know why the standard config sucked so bad. Now i am getting 54+ in the timedemo.

Also how hard is it to flash my card to the 5950ultra? I don't have a floppy drive.

Also i have it oc to 500/950 so far. Haven't had much time to play w/ it, but the stupid test for coolbits fails if i go higher. :bang head

That config disable some stuff like shadows and special effects. Grrr... Tried some of the others and no different. Frames still drop to 30 when firing weapon or certain lighting effect on on.

Well with the same setting and everything this 5900ultra gets about 10fps less than my 9700pro did.

Does this card have problem with certain light or effects?

I really couldn't tell ya, your card is better than mine I have a XT. You are using winXP, I'm using winME. So the game was not even made to play on my system, and I get 57+ default everything. I will do some tweaking later, since I had to install this again. I just can't install like you, I have to copy pak files to a folder.... :-/

The truth of the matter is, your 9700 would have more trouble with the lighting than your 5900. I really had to tweak my doom for it to play well on the 9600XT, and it uses the same conversion as the 9700. I'm sure all the threads on optimizing doom 3 for the ATI card is not a fluke, or you guy's got different type's of ATI's LOL!

But just looking at your system and looking at mine, I would expect you to score much higher. Maybe you didn't tweak your card in the control panel?

What is there to tweak in the control panel. I know for doom 3 on ati you had to enable triple buffering or something like that.

Also using forceware 66.81

Since you and GEK have pretty much the same setup, he will provide better help than I could. We all use different settings for different OS, and winME is definitely different than XP. You guy's use different drivers, my drivers don't even get anymore updates.... :eh?:

I have to use older drivers, because optimization of newer drivers are for XP/2000.

So since you have the operating system that is suppose to be twice as fast, and get every update available. I just take it that you should get more, which that might not be the case... :-/

Dude,
If you have never flashed a card or bios before, BE CAREFULL as you can make your card inoperable.

Do some research on the web first.

Good Luck!

I fix it. I turned off the vsync in the game. That is weird. Don't know why the vsync would make my frames drop to 30 in certain light, but it does.

Man now i am loving this card! :attn:
