yea litestep is cool, although before using this shell replacement the user should be aware that a great deal of 'hand' editing is usually required, through the step.rc files.
Litestep is quite flexible because of the ability to hand edit and has a wide range of addons available for it, but overall it can be a stressfull but worthwhile experience to make everything work how you want.

Should you loose control of litestep and wish to revert back to your tradional windows desktop all you have to do to return from litestep is to boot up into DOS using a start up disk and edit the system.ini which contains a line which reads

shell=litestep.exe

this line refers to where the OS will find the litestep shell if you change this line to refer back to explorer you obtain the windows shell

shell=Explorer.exe

I like Litestep (don't use currently... everyone else "needs" windows). My cousin (or some other strange relitive) came over a few years ago, and suddenly our whole desktop had changed (without any notice). My dad wasn't too pleased too say the least, but I kinda liked the different look Litestep offered.

The Stop.rc file IS a pain to edit to make even the simpilest things work, but that's what you get when you want power. The easiest thing is to download a theme allong with Litestep, and do a simple edit to the step.rc file. That's what I did for this comp anyway....

Is it really any more stable? I heard somewhere it was, but I don't torture test my system. If it runs, it runs. When it crashes, I restart and yell at the computer for loosing my 5 page essay due tomorow.

Litestep is awesome, but a year or two ago it messed up my PC REALLY well, unfortunately i decided the only way to fix it was to format C:, but at about 50% done i realised a less destructive way of doing it! DOH!
