View Full Version : Sweet little fan mod

Got 3 free fans out of a dead Cisco 24port switch. There sweet little buggers, loud, but they pump out some good cfm's. Decided to fit a couple of 'em into an empty slot on my smaller Antec case. Gotta work the holes a little more but it came out okay..adds some more fresh air to the "smallish" case.

After some work w/ the dremel...couldn't find any shorter bolts..gotta hit the hardware store this weekend :)

Tada!! Done..slapped a globalwin sticker on..he he. Hope I didn't kill everyone w/ bandwidth..tired to shrink the pics enough to make em viewable but not huge.

Heheh.. I need a dremel now dammit.. seen some of the stuff yall make with it.. looks like it'd be fun :)

I've got room for the third fan..really would make sense but then I have a might have a power issue. Something for a rainy day involving a bigger case and a second power supply :). I ended up using the dremel to trim down the screws and smooth out the fan openings. This stuff is too much fun!!!

I like it willysnut!!

I did almost the same thing a couple of months ago. Painted the bezel silver, and put the Abit PostMan display on it, along with a small fan. Both can be seen in the pic.

We just threw away about 5 of these Cisco hubs, these had two of these fan in it apiece.

Guess who has 10 of these babies.

Haaaa! Sweet! One of the perks of working w/ networking gear/computers. :) We get trade in's of 3Com gear for new Cisco gear. Lot's of older 3 com boxes have big 120mm fans that you can pull right out.

Get this. Cisco ships all the hardware to a site out west. They take all the gear and crush it! Make sure that it's dead, that the competitors name is not being "reused".

Thanks Allan. Nice job yourself..I like the silver paint. I actually have a bunch of sheetmetal around. Hmmm....something to consider.
