I'm gonna try to install Max Payne (which has been nothing short of a Pain with XP) and give this card a ride.
Max payne wont run under xp?
Hows the graphics with that card compared to gf3?
OK. max is fine.
Now I see what you radeon fanatics were saying all along!
IMage quality is FAR SUPERIOR to the geforce line. Very sharp, very crisp.
Good peformance too. I also get VIVO, not a bad bonus.
Now to test UT.
UT, not online, but the actual game got 63FPS at 1024x768 32bit. Not too shabby. Was getting 75 with the geforce 3.

Congrats on your new video card and welcome to the radeon family! I think you will grow fond of ATI. Try rage tweaker ( i think that whats its called) Or Radeon Tweaker. They both work great.

Yes, yes you should have :)
To overclock your Radeon, try PowerStrip. Thats what I use, and it works great.

That's what I'm using alright, very nice program.
Any way to stop the tool tips from loading at startup (without going into my registry :))?

too bad my parents had this psychological barrier of 140$....oh well.....
I went from a V5 to the Radeon 64 DDR. It was the best decision I ever could have made. Image quality is so much better and the card is much faster then the V5 was. Only thing I miss is the FSAA. Which is far better then ATI's. But I can run the card at 1280 x 1024 w/ 32bit color and it looks better and is still faster then the V5 was @ 1024 x 768 w/ 2x FSAA on. So I'm very happy!

Pinky get the newest version of Raid-on Tweaker. It is the best tool for the Radeon. You can tweak any aspect of the card, and overclock it. They guy that made it put in a html based help file that tells you what you are changing, and how it affects the card.
you can get it at radeonic.com
It wouldn't run properly under XP Po'

It probably would. XP is pretty much Win2k w/ a stranger interface.

I was saying I already tried it (first one I tried) and got all sorts of funky stuff going on as soon as I started to change clock speeds and had to reboot. Powerstrip's working fine.

Well, if powerstrip works, don't F*** with it.......(as they say)
I'm just waiting for one of my (richer, no kids) mates to get a GeF3, so I can get his Radeon 64Meg DDR VIVO.........can't wait....

Are these radean cards able to run the 4th test on 3dmark2001. Which card would be a better performer for me to buy Geforce 3 or the Radean?

Oh I never mentioned I get 3681 in 3dMark2001, core 198/mem 191 :)
Yes the Radeon 8500 will run the 4th test in 3dMark2001. It requires PixelShaders which the original Radeon doesn't support.
As for which is better you'll have to wait a bit. Currently the Radeon performs better than the GF3 in some areas and vice-versa.
Wait till ATI has some official drivers and Nvidia have their new Detonators on the go, and then see.
Would depend on your rig too.

How about price difference then? Comparing the best of both.

Radeon will be much better for the same price.
I'd wait. Games that use this new money features won't be available for another 6 months.
