Heard about the deals at Frys electronics so I drove the 540-mile RT journey today. I was shocked. This store is huge with most brands and models. They have like half a wall just with different brands of motherboards. They were all helpful and they even have a sit down deli style restaurant. And no extended warranty hustle.

ive only been to the Frys in Houston once. Seemed like they were under employed. Its just kinda far for me to drive, when Directron is so much closer :)

Love the stores, travel with work so we always look for Fryes and Best Buy everywhere we go. I have to be honest though, pc parts are alot cheaper in Canada. Makes no sense at all but I think it must be either greedy stores or import taxes???

what part of canada are you talking about??? i live in atlantic canada and everything here is almost twice as expesive as in the US. take for example a 9600xt, they still cost $300 cdn ($250 USD) and an 9800xt is $700 cdn+ ( $550 USD). No store within 3 hours of me carries anything useful (maybe 5 vidcards per store/ 3 processors/etc). it's cheaper for me to buy something from the US, have it shipped here overnight, and pay the rediculous UPS border fees than buy it retail.

and absolutely no one knows anything about computers. you know those pc horror stories you hear about with people dumping water on their pc to clean it. those are the smart ones around here. :bang head :bang head

i haven't visited a retail computer store in almost a year now because i am so fed up with all the crap these people don't know. for example: i ask for some AS thermal paste and no one in the store knows wtf im talking about.

sorry for the rant, i'm just really P.O.ed that i have to live here :temper: until i finish school.

im fortunate enough to live in LA where there is a couple frys around for me to goto. FRYS cant be beat for an actual retail store, they have excellent selection and carry alot of electronics that compusa or bestbuy wouldnt have.

I'm about 10 minutes away from one. If management would let me, I would live there. Here is a third party site which shows the weekely sales and what location they are at: http://www.frys-electronics-ads.com/

Two weeks ago I was in Phoenix, Arizona and I got really excited when I heard someone mention there was a Fry's down the road from my hotel. I decided to make the two mile walk and when I got there I found this: http://www.frysfood.com/ :(

Yea I went to Fry's last week with my boss and his son to pick up some things we needed at the office. I look at it like you need to know what you're there for. It's hard to get any type of quality service, but the selection is great. You can blow a whole day there and blow a hole in your wallet if you're not carefull. Good store though overall.

My store sells 9600XT's for $200 for the 128meg, and $223 for the 256meg (connect3d or sapphire, depending on what the warehouse sends us). You really need to do some shopping around. Parts here are just as cheap as in the US.

Yes, I wanted to see the place and I have to drive 118 just to shop for food and 320 If I want a good selection of food, so it really wasent that big a deal. I usually do all my buying on line or from here , but since I had the time I gave it a spin.

I went to a Fry's near Irvine last week, and inside it had a theme. Everything inside was built to look like the store was inside a castle.

I live here. There is a also a phone trunk due to government need. So I get DSL.

If you zoom in once you can get a better picture, zoom out you can see 40. I have to drive down that to either Flagstaff or Gallup, Gallup is about 68 miles one way, its close. I live right by the pond.

He is talking about Ontario, And for the most part Ontario has cheaper prices then the US for computer parts, as pointed out you have tigerdirect as a choice, there are other Canadian Parts dealers who sell for " will not be beat" rates, I tend to deal with www.yesplay.com mainly because I can pick up the items in Barrie Ontario which is close to me. if not them then tigerdirect

I just clicked on this thread thinking it would be about something else entirely because it had the word Frys and WOW in the title.

Btw, for those of you in SoCal that are potential fans of World of Warcraft (WoW, see?), Blizzard is going to be at the Fountain Valley Frys for a midnight opening on Monday night. Stuff will start kicking off at 10:30pm. I believe there is also going to be a giveaway of a free computer among other things. KROQ, NVidia, GameSpy, and Hot Dog on a Stick will also be there.

And I'll likely be there as well.

I'll probably post this exact same message in the Games forum in a day or two as well. Just thought I'd give you all some notice considering this thread considering. . . wait. . . hold on. . . wrong Frys. The directions in this thread are to get to the Anaheim Frys. Blizzard will be at the Fountain Valley Frys.
