Ok this may sound stupid but I am looking for tips on how to do this exactly. I have a BFG 6800 GT OC version. I downloaded coolbits and can now get at the clock speeds. I had it detect optimal speeds and it came back at 405 1.07 or something, and EQ2 crashed right away. Next I tried 391 1ghz and the game ran but then crashed after a shortwhile.
I have a couple of questions
What is the auto overclocking feature and what does it do?
Are you supposed to do manual overclocking and if so are you supposed to do it on 2D or 3D or both? I am overclocking specifically for EQ2 btw.
Any tips you can give me to do this right would be greatly appreciated.
I am running a 3.4 amd64 1 gig of ram soltek nforce3 motherboard and a new thermaltake 480w ps.
Thanks all.

You shouldn't be crashing with those clock speeds unless you have a really crappy OC'ing video card which is quite possible. Auto detect will do ok in most situations but you can usually ake it higher than that manually. It's the same either way.
Your system is pretty solid for EQ2 playing though.

Yeah I cant get over 390 clockspeed and I am reading all these articles where guys are getting way higher. That is why I am wondering if maybe I am doing something wrong. I noticed it resets my monitor refresh rate to 60 after I oc, I tried switching it back to 85 but that didn't help. Any ideas as to what I could be doing wrong? Or maybe it is just a crappy overclocker.

Your card is stock 370.. it just might not be able to hack the higher speeds. You could try getting some additional cooling on the card like a VGA silencer or something and try that. That's all I can think of. OC'ing with video cards is normally pretty straight forward. It either works or gives your artifacts or just plain craps out.
Just an FYI, with my setup I noticed very little difference from my stock 6800gt to it being OC'dto 415/1.1ghz in EQ2. It's worth a shot though, if anything to get more cooling on your card.
Make sure Fast Writes are off, that's a killer on the 6800. Also you can edit/flash your BIOS and have it run at 1.4v rather than 1.3v, that helped my OC. As suggested, the NV5 will drop your temps a decent ammount, well worth the$28.00.

Thank you Sucka! Fast rights was the culprit. Now running smooth as silk at 415, 1.09.

Just my experience with Collbits and o/cing my eVGA 6800gt.
I noticed my highest benchmark scores (3dmark03, Aqua etc) when I used "AutoOverclock". With this option im not sure what the gpu anf memory are set to. But when I manually set 400/1.1 or 390/1.08 I still get the best scores with the "Auto Overclock" setting??
BTW I not complaining or unhappy with my bench scores.
