Ok guys, heres whats up: I have a Celeron II @ 633 mHz with a 66 mHz FSB. Its on a HP 6734 system, don't know the motherboard. I want to simply have a 100 FSB, maybe a little faster processor speed. If I try overclocking, is there a risk that I could ruin the system and lose all of my data and files? Also, what steps would I take to make this little upgrade, if its even possible? I am just a little annoyed with the slow performance of the Celeron.

My other option besides overclocking is to buy a faster processor, and I was wondering if a PIII with 100 or 133 FSB would work on my motherboard? I don't want to change motherboards because it would only be worth it to me to do that if I got an Athlon, but it won't work in a MiniATX mobo from what I've learned.

Any input/answers would be greatly appreciated.

Go to http:\\www.motherboards.org and answer a couple of ?`s and it will tell you what kind of MoBO you have. But from what I have read here you might not be able to O.C. the system. Cause the makers do not like overclockers. But then again you might I hope you can.

i have worked on many hp's, if you look on the motherboard, near the top pci slot, there should be a model #. then go online and look up the model #.
as far as ocing it, there may not be jumpers on the board, or if there is, it'll only be for 66/75/83/100/133mhz fsb, many times there is no voltage jumper, if there are no jumpers at all, you will have to look in the bios, if no help in the bios, look for softfsb (which is a piece of software to change the fsb in the os)
if you want to get a better cpu, it'll have to be socket 370 as you prolly already know. you may need to update the bios.
and, some hp's will only have a heatsink on the cpu, no fan. there is a fan only on the power supply. this could be a problem with a micro case, take a look at that too.
good luck

Hi spitzaf, wellcome to the Forum,
Your chip generally is easly overclocked and with good results (around 950Mhz), but before you must check your Mobo, like just suggested, to know if you can set a different Fsb (System Bus) and VCore (chip voltage), you'll need also of a good heatsink and a thin layer of thermal paste to hold the chip temps around 40-45 degree C.
To monitor your system temps I suggest you MotherBoardMonitor that you can found at http://mbm.livewiredev.com/

I hope it helps you ;)
