what?? 100 bucks??!?! thats way too much.. cant u just hook a the ethernet to a wireless router (of your own, like lynksis or netgear) and that will pick up the network? or do u have to get this one? also, since i have a ethernet jack in my room, can u hook up those audio video (red and yellow cables) to a comp and then the ethernet directly so u can play via ur comp??

I'd hook the xbox to the router via ethernet cable and use one of these (http://www.x2vga.com/) to hook to your monitor for some high resolution xbox action, but that's a bit expensive also, your best bet would be to have TV, xbox and all the goodies upstairs, but I take it you can't take the TV upstairs?

your next option would be to run cat5 from the router, downstairs just for the xbox, just get a 500 Foot box of it (about 40 bucks) or a patch cord just long enough to go from point A to B (measure 8 times, buy once)

ok just 2 questions, how do u convert the red yellow and white cables to an s video cable so it can be hooked up to a computer (for viewing from the monitor)...and..when hooking up a wireless router to the xbox for live, does the router have to be an xbox one (like in the link) or can it be your own wireless router or reciever...whatever u call it...

If your connecting your xbox to a router then you have to have an ethernet jacked to the internet connect to the router. I think what you're thinking of is a wireless bridge, which is what that M$ adapter is. Any wireless bridge should work, do a google for reviews. Some are easier to configure. Some wireless routers do operate as a bridge, check your manual to your second router if thats what you want.

but i thought all the xbox needs is a reciever since i already have a wireless network through out the house, like the laptops just need a wireless card to pick up the signal so wouldnt u just need a reciever? like with an antenna? what about converting red, yellow and white cables to s video for playing on a comp?

A bridge is the only thing that will work, besides a wired network.
You can get a s-video to RCA adapter, many laptops ship with them. Otherwise they are like <$5 at Rat shack. The red and white cables are the audio and you can put them into your receiver or soundcard, or get another adapter at Rat shack to connect them to your PC speakers.

what about converting red, yellow and white cables to s video for playing on a comp? that adapter that I linked to for the monitor is to plug in a monitor only into the xbox, it doesn't use the pc it's self to do anything, the box converts NTSC signals to vga signals. To INPUT a signal into your computer you'd need a tv tuner/capture card and you'd plug the yellow (video), red and white (left and right channels) plugs into your tv tuner/capture card, the Svideo on your video card is an OUTPUT.

ok so pretty much my only option is to get a really big ethernet cable which goes from upstairs to downstairs...any idea how much a really long (maybe 100-200 feet?? i have no idea) cable might cost? other than the wireless adapter for 100$ is there no other option for setting up live??

Cheap, and should you need more than 100 feet, you can get a coupler and more cable.

Not sure if that's a really reputable dealer, but you're welcome to Google.

by coupler do u mean something to connect 2 ethernet cables?

also i have another question: My xbox came with a 2 month trial, and when i start it up and when it ends i am pretty sure they just add a year of service for 50$ to ur credit card...is that how it works? and if so then you would just continue or they would just continue recieviing 50$ a year untill u wanted to stop it? so then you would not need a starter kit or anything.....but then you would also need to buy a headset serperatley if u wanted one i guess...wow too many questions but i guess im a n00b... :p

Zipzoomfly has the Netgear ME101 wireless bridge for $44.50 (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=251779) and I've seen a linksys bridge made for consoles in the $60 range. I dont know how well these work, and the reviews I've read seem mixed.
Good Luck and let us know what you decide to do.

Yes, a coupler connects two ethernet cables together. Two are on sale at that site, but one is sold out.

I don't have an XBox, so I can't answer your second question.
