Hmm this is a hard one. I just bought a Ti4600 UPS seems to be shipping it a little slow because it still has not arrived. If u can overclock the 4200 to 4600 speeds that its very tight, the 4600 without AA and AF is a very good performer in alot of games. Here is a link.

He's still better off with a 9600 Pro, he'll have more of a chance at running future games.

True but the Ti4200 is cheaper, he could get the Ti4200 use it for half a year or another year then upgrade, it will be better in the long run.

I would not want to run a 9600 pro in directX9 while playing hl2. Because of this, just get the ti4200 and save money. They are about even without aa or af.

The TI4200 is slightly faster without AA/AF but loses when they are enabled. Also,The 9600pro really kills the TI4200 with pixel shaders.Plus the Image quality is better too.
I vote 9600pro.

Well when my Ti4200 comes i shall overclock it and we shal see the benchy's!! :p
Keep an eye on prices, the 9700pro is becomming more and more reasonable. If I see one below $100 I am kicking my 5800 to the curb. My Ti4200 killed in its day. If I was just doing DX8 games I would deffinitly own another.
i got the ti4200-8x. i'll upgrade to a 9500@9700, 9700np/pro in about 6 months :).
i see that the 4200-8x has another gpu (nv28) than the others (nv25).. is the NV28 worse?
