Hello everyone

I just got myself some new parts to upgrade my old system :

Pentium Celeron 850MHZ
Abit Motherboard VH6-II
Hyundai 256MB(PC150) RAM

I'm wondering if anyone can teach me how to overclock this system? Do i need to buy any other parts so i can overclock ?
And also, i have 2 spare 64MB ram(PC100), if i were to put it together with the new ram i just bought, will it affect the system speed or the overclocking? Thanks alot in advance...

Hi jackmin, wellcome to the Forum,
I'm downloading the user manual of your mobo for support you, please what kind of Cpu cooler do you have?

Well, it seems to be really easy on your Mobo, you must go into the Bios section called Softmenu III at start-up and change the Cpu operating speed from 850Mhz to 1133Mhz setting the External Clock Freq. from the original 100Mhz to 133Mhz with great attenction to the Pci Frequency generated that must be 1/4 of the Fsb (33Mhz!), and if not stable rise a little the Core voltage but never over the 15% of the original Value.
You can OverClock (OC) your Cpu only if his temp at the rated speed is around 40 degree C or less, coz when OCed never must go over 50 degree C, but less is better!
Remember to apply a very thin layer of thermal paste on the Cpu Core before you fix the Cooler on it, and to check the system temp I suggest you to use MotherBoardMonitor that you can found at http://mbm.livewiredev.com/

I hope it helps you ;)

Don't use the spare memory, it will cause problems when overclocking.

hiya ppl...

thanks alot for the quick replies! =)

The Door : I am using the original CPU cooler fan that comes with the processor. I tried changing the speed in the softmenu yesterday to 1133Mhz, but each time crashed after loading the window. I haven't tried changing the vcore though, maybe i'll try to increase it later when i'm back home. Shall let u know more.
Btw do i need to buy a new bigger CPU fan for the processor? Usually does the pc crashes bcoz the CPU overheat(lack of cooling fan)?

It's better if you check before your chip temps at the rated speed, if are around 40 degree C @full load (100% load), rise the Fsb and the VCore, but if the temps are around 45-50 don't go, change the cooler (forget the Orb are Crap) and and after OC it.
Generally the system crash if the Cpu temp is too high or the voltage is too low to satisfy the bigger request of energy of the chip OCed.

I hope it helps you, Good Luck! :)

A better HSF (HeatSink Fan) is indeed really what you need. I recommend the Thermalright SK6 personally. Running the same chip at 1207MHz right now. With my cooler I was able to get 1133 at 1.7V or 1.75V I believe.

Good luck!
