View Full Version : Best Drivers forHalf-Life 2
Title says it all. What drivers will everyone be using for TOMMOROW!!!!!! :santa:  Best framerate wise.
I heard the 4.12 betas are the best, but CS:S has been running more than smooth on my system w the latest omegas.
I'll probably use the omegas.. though I have older cats on. I noticed my card is less and less tolerable of high agp frequencies the newer my drivers get. I cant wait to see play.

I would go with the latest Omegas. I did some tests and it came out on top in all 3DMarks, and with ATI Tool, the show 3D view, i get far more fps on that than i did with the 4.12. I was getting around 360 fps with 4.12 on ATI Tool, and around 425 with Omegas, so im waiting for Omegas new release, whenever that will be.
The latest Omegas are the 4.10 Betas' right?

Very intresting.. a custom OpenGL driver for Half-Life 2. Does anyone have performance comparisons for these?

just out of interest, why does everyone go on about those custom opengl drivers being linked to the hl2 performance? - hl2 uses D3D...although it says optimised for hl2 so I dunno what that entails.
I found the omega 2.5.90s to be the best around atm though, they give better fps than 4.11s (although im using the 4.11s as they fix things in other games I play) - however the 4.12s also I have to ask were it said these were hl2 drivers as all I have seen is that it fixes problems relating to punkbuster and ontop of that they gave me the flickering problem from the stress test

haha, I agree. the answer to "what is the best driver?" is:
The newest driver, or the newest stable driver from ati. There are benefits from 3rd party drivers. But if the 3rd parties were really blowing the manufacturer's drivers out of the water, the manufacturers would respond. The rest is a lot of nit-picking.

I have an X800 XT PE with the HL2 Optimized TC 4.12 drivers - gained close to 15 fps (Running 1600x1200, Full AA/AF) . I was using Omega (4.10) before.
