Well the story goes like this:

A friend of mine was talking about upgrading his computer, and asked me to look at what he has now. He bought a Dell XPS about a year ago, and I discovered that it has a SL6WK 3.0C in it. So, naturally, I got all excited about overclocking it for him, and he did as well.

We ordered:

-1Gb PC3200 OCZ EL Plat Rev 2
-A brand new Antec case/PSU
-Abit IC7-G
-Thermalright XP120

However, he's decided now that he doesn't want to upgrade. He wants to send all of the stuff back and maybe keep the memory. Would it be worth him to keep the OCZ EL Plat 2 even though he's not OC'ing? Or would he be better off returning/selling it and getting maybe 1.5-2 gigs of Corsair Value Select memory for the same price?

He said he is not planning on upgrading for at least a year, so I told him that returning it for more memory might be a wise choice. He has a 9800 Pro, so maybe more memory would be appropriate. But, I dont know, your voices are welcome.

Please be kind and don't flame too much.

Thanks,

Odie :)

(P.S. Watch the classifieds soon for the other items we bought)

depends on what he does with the PC.

if he needs more than 1gb of memory, than getting 1.5-2.0gb of the corsair would be the best option.

Otherwise, i would keep the memory.

how much memory is your friend running right now ? do they find it sufficient?

He's only using 2x256 of whatever came with the computer.

Believe it or not, the IC actually says "Micron 5B -C" :)

He doesn't do a whole lot with the computer; he likes to look at it (heh). But he likes to game, and he's pretty concerned about being able to handle HL2 and some of the future titles and what not.

That said, I only recommended 2Gb of memory to him as an upgrade which might hold him over until he wants to make a larger overhaul, i.e. PCI Express.
