View Full Version : Anyone watercooled their video-ram?
I'm trying to design a waterblock(s) for my GF3 ram but I don't want to use any aluminum. I know it won't really gain me anything, but I already have my cpu, gpu, and chipset watercooled, so it's kinda annoying having to point a fan at just my video-ram.
If anyone has watercooled their video-ram could you please include a pic or at least a rough diagram of how you did it?
I have some 1/8" copper plating I can use to contact the ram, but I need something to enclose the water. I was thinking of drilling out some plexi-glass or lexan, but it's difficult to find plexi-glass that thick and lexan can be expensive. Anyone have any clever ideas that I might not have thought of?

Why not just make one big waterblock that covers the GPU and RAM. It will need to extend down to touch the ram, but that wouldnt be to hard.

now now would, lets not get sarcastic :D , though i admit it does seem a little excessive.
Although I haven't water-cooled the video ram, I have made quite a few water blocks from some hobby copper plate I picked up.. You might try that.. The stuff I found was .025"thick and came in 4" x 10" sheets for about $4 each.. It's easy to cut & bend into any shape you need.. You could just make small caps for the plate you already have & just solder up the seams.

ramsinks will be more than enough for the ram, you might actually get higher temps running hot water from the cpu through them......

Surprised you've all missed this around the net:-

Since making the above blocks and then trading the card to the CEO of nVidia I have been helping get a retail GF3 kit to market, initially meant for the Asus card, but there will be a one piece unit to fit (hopefully all the reference cards)

Damn that's sweet!!!!!!!!
If I had one of those, I'd put some of those small TECs they sell at radio shack under the waterblock to cool the memory(memory responds very very well to supercooling).

Yes it's not for everyone I agree, but my reasons are not overclocking as such, but TOTAL PC silence.

I felt foolish deafing myself with all the fans before........ I'm much happier now :)

why not watercool your system ram? I'm sure it could be done, just would have to be really thin so that it would fit snug inbetween 2 sticks as well as having 2 the outside of the ram

i dont c why but if you are going to make then, make them, for four thingies of ram so you can also stick them on your motherboard ram
