View Full Version : Insocket thermistors? Do these read accurately!! I can't be this high in temp!

Ok.. I was sick and tired of hitting 59 during load. I couldn't figure it out so I took off all pads on my cpu and use ASII and I know 100% for sure that the HS is on flat.

So here I have an SK6 crazy fan blowing and my temps are crazy. So I say hmmm. what if my temps are off by 10c???

So I treid to overclock figuring it just wouldn't post if my temps where that high. So I overclock it to 11x143which is 1607. Thats a 1607 from 1400. IT BOOTS PERFECTLY. I run burn in. Its burns in stable. But the temp is like 61C!!!! So this \damn thing must just read high. Anyone else agree? Check speks for my computer brand parts.

Generally I think Abit's tend to be optimistic about temperature by a few degrees, which would mean yours is actually above 60. I can't believe that though, especially as your stability is so good. I wouldn't like to guess at the actual temperature, the only way you'll find out it to get a digital thermometer and place the probe right next to the cpu core, between the ceramic and the base of the hsf.

I'm using a Senfu digital thermometer (see here (http://www.overclock.co.uk/formproducts.php?producttype=Thermal-Sensing), the second one down) - that tells me my cpu temps are around 44-45C under load, whereas the mobo temp probe says it's 51C. I think the reason it's higher is because I'm watercooling and there isn't much airflow around the socket to cool the mobo thermistor down.

I'm starting to think that these CPU's just run hotter than anything around. I just picked up a nice 1.33 T-Bird that will post 1600 but freezes shortly thereafter. Came factory unlocked...I love not having to do the pencil trick :)

Running the CPU at 1.333 the lowest idle temp I've seen today is 40c w/ an ambient temp of 26c. I'm looking at VIA HWmonitor right now running 47c with Folding @ Home running.

I'm using a CAK38, AS2, a Antec case w/ 3 entry and 3 exahust fans. It's scary but it's totally stable. Ran loops of 3DMark, been running folding all day, etc. This thing is making my CAK look like a POS. :)

Are the insocket thermistors accurate? Ha, I don't even have a insocket thermistor on my fic az11 board. Acctually thats one of the reasons why I won't overclock this comp much.

Try arctic silver ii; it's really like that. I know people resort to watercooling and peltziers when they run at 1.6-1.7

The best thing to do i find a way to monitor you temps using another temp sensor(hardware not software) then do some tests to find the difference between the two. After all that if the "insocket thermsistor" reads +/- 10°C then you can still use it just factor in the diif.

Are the Temp. guns any good??

I have 1.2ghz t-bird an my temps are case:22c cpu:30c (I dunno what ambeint temp. is cuz I broke my thermometor :( ) so its probly 2 degrees or so below case temp.. The heatsink I have on it is a OCZ Gladiator with a moded high speed 92mm panaflo fan on it.

Where are you going to measure with a temp gun? For more information on socket thermistors read this. (http://mikewarrior.freeservers.com/)

My Asus A7V motherboard uses an onboard temp probe right on the MB under the CPU socket (not the type that touches the CPU). I got sick of the high temp readings and bought a Digi Doc 5.....My CPU temp under full load is 43 C compared to 58 C using the MB probe. I mounted the Digi Doc 5 temp probe right on top of the CPU ceramic beside the die.

Does anyone else have an Abit KG7RAID and tested their CPU temps with the software and compared them to hardware testing? Is there much of a difference? Could my software be reading my temps 10C too high?

I have a brand new Abit KG7 Raid MB sitting on my bench just waiting to go into my system. I am waiting for my larger 3/8 water cooling lines to arrive....live in a small town you have to mail order everything!! I will do some test on my new board with the MB temp and then the Digi Doc 5 and post the results.

One more thought on the inaccuracy of in socket or side mounted themistors. Check out the temps in this HS review (http://www.a7vtroubleshooting.com/articles/coolers/index.htm) that were done using the Palominos in die diode. Then remember the Palomino has a larger core for better heat transfer and runs cooler because of the lower Vcore. Your Birds are frying!:D

I have a Compunurse Thermal Probe Installed perfectly and it has temps marked at 41.9, whereas my ViaHardware Monitor says 44 Degrees Celcius. In my personal opinion I think that the VHM tacks on a few degrees cause it knows it isn't inside the chip, where the best spot for a thermometer would be.
