Hey all-

I just broke out the old Celeron 300A @ 450 to test out my new waterblock setup. Does anybody remember what full load temperatures were on these things? I can't remember and the CPU database doesn't say.

full load temps were what ever they were, there wasn't a standard full load temp, it depends on cooling.
but at 450mhz and 2v it gives out 23.9W
so with a good water cooler with about a 0.10 c/w and a water temp of 25oC you would expect to see a core temp of 27oC.
does your board not have a maxim 1617 temp monitoring chip?

Of course there is no standard full load, I just want to hear what temps other people encountered.

I just want to know what was considered a good temperature for these chips. I got mine at 475mhz, 2.15V, and it's 30C at full load. I can't know if this is an improvement over the Intel HSF without taking the water rig apart and putting the HSF back on. Obviously I'd rather skip this step if I can. I doubt I even have a 'sink to filt a slot chip anymore.

Just looking for the experiences of others with this chip...

As I recall, I had 42-45c full load @504 Mhz, 2.2v using Globalwin dual 4500 fans. It's been awhile though :)

whats you water temp? (in the resevior)
to work out the c/w you take the cpu temp, deduct the water temp, then divide the number of watts by that figure.
so if your water temp was say 25oC you would have a c/w of 0.17 which is pretty normal for water cooling but thats only an estimate.

Hey thanks guys, looks like my new block is doing the trick. 31 C under full load now after 6 hour straight folding.


Phil- since you asked, my res water is at 22C- it's a cold day. Gives me a decent C/W but see here- If my setup gave me a C/W of 0.17, but everyone else got 0.20, then I know my block isn't too great. Likewise, if I get 30C but guys with Alphas get 32C, then I have a problem. I'm trying to figure out how much better my H20 cooling is than everyone else's methods, if at all.

But thanks anyway- now I can figure C/W without Radiate :)

Well thats pretty normal for a watercooling setup, you have to remember that watercooling isn't always about performance, getting that sort of performance out of a heatsink and fan would mean a fair amount of noise, where as with water cooling you can get away with a quiet psu fan, a quiet intake fan and a quiet radiator fan. I get a c/w rating of about 0.10-0.15 from my glaciator and whilst it is quiet, it's by no means as quiet as a watercooled rig.

To work out the c/w without radiate is not easy as you need to work out the wattage of the cpu, basically you take the cpu temp, subtract the ambient temp (either of the water or air going into the fan from about 1" away) and then you divide that figure by the wattage of the cpu.
So for example my celeron 600@927 with 2v is at about 33.5W, my cpu temp is 29oC and my ambient temp is 26oC, so I subtract 26 from 29, and divide 3 by 33.5

(cputemp-ambient) / wattage = c/w

(29-26)/33.5 = 0.089
which seems a bit low for me so the ambient temp is probabally lower than that in reality.
But to work out your wattage radiate is best
