I dont use wingate, but, when I first setup my home network, i only had TCP/IP network protocol installed (the one used for the internet). this was a problem becasue some games use that protocol for LAN games, other use the IPX protocol. Some games give you the option to use either. So im assuming you've already got TCP/IP installed, to install IPX, right-click on network neighborhood, and click "add" then select IPX and press install. That helped me, but your problem could be related to wingate also. :eek:

the problem was related to wingate i had nothing but problems i was freezing up a lot and had to reboot 10 times and hour and could never finish a download or do complete any microsoft updates so i got rid or it and now im using ics.so ill be trying to game later tonight i think it should work if i use my server computer to host and the client to host isp if not ill try installing ipx.
Wingate=ICS
MS bought them out :D

ive never tried Wingate but im using Winproxy im pretty positive that it is similar. i don't have any problems so far i like this program. i used to use ICS but sometimes it would fail i didn't like it. Maybe you should try Winproxy .
all you need is Netbios to play 2 pcs on the same net?
Heres a snippet:
Short for Network Basic Input Output System, an application programming interface (API) that augments the DOS BIOS by adding special functions for local-area networks (LANs). Almost all LANs for PCs are based on the NetBIOS. Some LAN manufacturers have even extended it, adding additional network capabilities.
Netbios isnt a protocol, so in answer to you question, no.
sorry my bad not NETBIOS i mean Netbuie or something like that
lol
For a home LAN I would use TCP/IP and IPX/SPX. Netbeui isnt going to help you with gaming in any way. Most newer games are TCP/IP only as it is.
but ween you whant to play only 2 pcs and no net you need Netbuie i hade the same problem and i looked around and they toled me to install netbuie and it worked 'fine for me?
As far as I know, you only need TCP/IP and/or IPX/SPX. Most newer games run on TCP/IP, but some older ones use IPX/SPX. How do you have your computers networked? And are you sure they're networked right? Can you see eachother in the "Network Neighborhood?"
