I would like to get some heatsinks for the ddr chips on my video card...way back when, I seen a geforce kit, which had ramsinks, as well as some hs/fan for the gpu, and I can't find it anymore online..can one of you fine people point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance,
Doc

the best cooling for a video card would be from radio shack, they have a socket370 cooler for about 10$ and little ramsinks(well they arent ramsinks but the size is perfect) and on the website they are 50cents

The Problem with cooling the ramchips on a Leadtek Gf2 is that the Leadtek vectored air Heatsink covers two of chips on the right hand side of the card as you can see in the picture below: http://www.leadtek.com/geforce2/gts64-new.jpg

Now I have tried many many heatsinks on this card and pn my Leadtek GF2 Ultra:

A few solutions are

1: Unscrew the stock fan on that heatsink and replace it with a 40x40x20mill fan (cost about $5 dollars) Use silicone or superglue to affix the new fan to the hsf (keep in mind you will not be able to use the Winfox onboard fan monitor unless you 'stack the fans'

2: Get rid of the stock heatsink and get a low profile rackmount IU heatsink. 2 of the best are:

Low Profile 1U Rackmount Cost $15 at

My personal favorite is the Alphapal15u @$28, with the bad boy you can touch the back of your GPU it really does the job as its just slightly warm and not blazing hot. TheDelta fan produces enough airflow to cool the ramsinks as well.

Now as was said before Radioshack ramsinks are pretty nice @$1.59 each:

To affix all of this use Arctic silver adhesive in this ratio so you can remove it if you ever decide to move these HSF's to your next upgrade,

I have found that arctic silver adhesive works best with this ratio

Mix the Arctic silver in this blend

1part A adhesive
1part B adhesive
1part regular arctic silver II

Arctic silver's website recommends a formula of 50% part A and 50% part B if its permenent

and 50%part A and B and 50% Arctic Silver II

I find my ratio of 1part A adhesive
1part B adhesive
1part regular arctic silver II

works best as and is stronger and will hold the weight of the Alpha easily:

There is also another trick

Mix up this formula :

1part A adhesive
1part B adhesive
1part regular arctic silver II

And apply it only to the corners of the gpu approximatly one sqr centimeter on each side in the corners. and use regular Arctic silver on the rest of the GPU.

THis works well and is my current method that I used when I affixed my Alpha15u

Anyway thats all i can type and I gotta go fishing, hope that helped.

PS, You can get Arctic Silver Thermal Adhesive for $9.95 with FREE shipping at:SVC (http://www.svcompucycle.com/thermalgrease.html)

I've never seen Artctic Silver Adhesive this cheap and Svc has an excellent reputation.

Sweet :).

Is the performance gain equal to or less than the cost of selling and buying a card that will do those speeds at default?

Pinky,

I had to read that twice  Actually its neither as I believe in my case its More

For example Ill post two scenarios that I've been through recently.

I had a PIII 800E that couldn't quite hit 1.1gig+ and the magic number of 133fsb just was just out of reach(I didnt have my Custum Swiftech1000 then  ) so in that case less got me more.

Now with the PIII's being slowly phased out I wanted a PIII 1g that was 133 fsb but it wouldnt go over 150fsb stabily so in that case more got me less.

Same thing with my last video card, the Leadtek GF2pro was almost an Ultra but my Ultra was more, and in this case the Ultra just plain kicks @SS ;)

PS Pinky the NVmax 3.00.48 Beta is able to go to 350 on the core speed and with the Alpha Pal15U I can run it that high, but since OC the core is sensless I leave it at 275-300(im pretty satisfied with the Ultra I have and got my Ram beyond 540ish before any artifacts appear, Just recently added silver bases to the Radio shack ramsinks still testing them.

PSS I know you are now a Radeon guy, but I've had two Radeon 64ddr's and I just wasnt happy with them, but they are still nice, especially the DVD software.

PSS The new Det4 drivers really are sweet, when you getting your GF3 back?

[crosses fingers] I won't be keeping it, but I expect it back any day.[/crosses fingers]

Wow, Thanks for all the replies...I was thinking of getting rid of the stock sink on the thing anyway...i don't like indirect cooling, and I think I can get the gpu lower than it is right now, 50-54c...heck, my overclocked PIII only runs at 35c and up to 40 under load..but seems stable, but still, I should be able to get the gpu temps down further with my own setup...and thanks for the radio shack idea, Those are the exact sinks I cut to fit my clock generator on this mobo here, and helps with stability, or so I'm told.
Radio shack it is then....but i need a better gpu cooler... that 1u setup looked kewl.
Now I have to disable winfox...the fan is not showing up in the utility, but I verified it working...before it was reporting fan overspeed....now it reports the fan dead...maybe the tach circuit is toast in the fan?
Who cares as long as I get 8000 3dmark 2000 scores right?

Doc,

Both IU coolers listed above are really nice additions to any GPU/ Hey once you get one by unplugging the teeny stock fan will get an improvement on the cards general stability as you wont need to draw power from the limited power of the AGP slot.

The winfox utility has always caused me problems and just DL Motherboard monitor instead as its better anyway.

If your planning on buying that AOC cooler I would act soon before they run out or increase thier pretty decent price.

ps added this after I hit reply:

If you have a dremmel you can carve out a small channel for the thermostat that sits on the top of the chip (the stock HSF has a channel, you will see it if you remove it) If you dont have a dremmel, an ordinary file will work, or you can simply push the sensor out of the way upon replacing the heatsink.

How do you monitor the video card's temps with MBM ?

Pinky Sky is right I was thinking about using the mobos thermal plug in probe when I posted that, but I discovered its not an option. the way I monitor my GPU is with a digitaldoc probe and occasionaly use my infrared handheld scanner if I want to see the heatsink's temp itself.

MBM is a cool product but its of no use for Video card monitoring.

But in lieu of being wrong I found for you people a new addition to my favorite GPU heatsinks, the newest hasnt been tested by me(was only put on sale last week)) but I will surely find a way to get one soon. Btw its 79(W) X 67.3(D) X 24(H) mm (and depending on the base may be able to cool some or all of the ramsinks, I couldnt find specs on the Sanyo Denki base) and the Alpha Pal15u which is 60x60x25

I will be putting it head to head with this soon:
