View Full Version : Cooling Cube Mounting?
I was thinking about getting a cooling cube but I need to
know how it mounts!
Any Pics Please!

Depends on how you want to mount it. Check the review on the front page for a picture of the Cooling Cube.

I drilled pairs of holes in the base of my case, and holes in the flanges in appropriate positions - then zip-tied the cooling cube to the base. It's rock solid - doesn't move at all. At the bottom of the radiator in the picture you can just about see black rubber blowhole trim, that I put on the bottom edges to stop vibrations from the fan on the cooling cube transferring to the case. All in all it's worked out great - I used zip-ties pretty much everywhere in the case, they're keeping all the wiring tidy, and holding the pump down as well! :D
Nice looking rig Rob. Glad to know there is another serious zip tie man! My Cube is mounted above the PSU. It sits on heavy duty weatherstrip and has thin weatherstrip between the Cube and Case. Holes drilled in the back of the case allow zip ties to secure the Via the 180 degree bends in the copper tubing. The fan inside the case is also mounted with zip ties.
Here is a pic of the side of the radiator:

Here is a pic of the back of the case showing the zip ties. The odd placement of holes is to accomodate the position of the copper tubing on the radiator.

Cheers Colin - and likewise, that's a nice looking rig that you have (I remember seeing pics of it in the Alt modding section, or maybe here - with the fanbus). Is that other power plug socket on the back for the water pump? I did that on my first case but couldn't find anywhere on the back of the GW802 big enough, so I just ran the lead out through a hole in the back.
Do you find much of a performance improvement using two fans instead of one with the cooling cube? I figured it'd probably help more than with usual radiators due to the extra depth of the cooling cube, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet :(
I'd never used zipties before this project, but I'd heard such good things about them I popped down to Maplin (our equivalent of Radio Shack) and got a bag of 100 for a couple of quid. Never looked back since!
*EDIT* If you look just below the Northbridge cooler in the pic on my previous post you can see the micro pots for the volt mod :D
