View Full Version : Hibernation? Restarts? WTF

I'm using my old 766MHz Celeron computer, and just recently it started to restart after a while. I was right in the middle of editing a photo in photoshop when all of a sudden, it restarts on me. At first I thought it was PSU problem, so I replaced the PSU with another I had and now it doesn't restart as much as it goes into Hibernation. :bang head *sigh* It's rather quite annoying. Now I'm thinking it's probably the CPU. I've had it a long time (5+ years) and have pushed it REALLY hard in it's life.

Any suggestions?

what are your temperatures like? i believe you can turn hibernation off.

Yes, check power settings and make sure hibernation is disabled.
Also, if possible, check the RAM with memtest86 from memtest86.com, check PSU voltages, and make sure the cooling apparatus is firmly and correctly attached.

If you still have problems, run a Virus and Adware scan - using a program like Adaware from www.lavasoft.com

Probably not good... I replaced the mobo with a more newer socket 370 (which originally had a 700MHz CPU in it). I took the CPU out and swapped it with my 766MHz CPU. I did notice some thermal paste on the old CPU between the core and the heatsink, and my older CPU didnt have any before I put the HSF back on.

So what I'm thinking is that my temps are too high and the comp shuts itself down.

I ordered some Nanotherm PCM+ Thermal compound for my new system, so I will try putting some on this and see if it will make it any better.

BTW, I will try what you suggested, David.

Thanks.
