Don't really know what happened. But I went to change the CPU fan (80mm) cause the one on there was a bit noisy. Got done went to bootup and nothing. The cpu did have a chipped corner from mounting a waterblock a while back. But it still worked. Thought maybe I got some ASII on something. Cleaned it all up and still nothing. I did'nt smell any burning or anything. I'm sure the chipped core has something to do with it though.
I stuck the chip in another computer and nothing. Stuck a different 1.2 gig in mine and was fine. So I know it's the chip.

Now I'm stuck with this slow PII 350 for a week or so till my Duron 700 comes. That should get me thru the next month or two till I get some extra cash to get a new 1.4 gig. Things are a bit iffy right now cause the wife will not be working anymore cause she's gonna have the baby any week now. So I don't want to spend any money ya know what I mean. Why does this stuff always happen at a bad time. Oh well I'll get to try some Duron overclocking. Something new.

So sorry to hear of your loss, although I would be most interested to hear your opinions on the Duron so let us know when you get it

try this
unplug your pc

set the reset jumper for like a min

the put the power p[lug back in

then move the reset jumper back to normal operation

see if it works

its worth a try

sometimes........it works

I guess it must be dead if you tried another in and it worked - sure sounds strange though. Just shows how fragile AMD cpus are. You have my condolences - hope you can get the $ for a 1.4gig soon enough - otherwise, enjoy the duron :)

Yeah, coming from Intel for years to Amd, I must agree that they are very fragile! Oh well, Things happen. I'm sure it won't be to long before I can get that 1.4 gig. I hope anyway :)

durons aren't that bad... you'll live. they're a lot of fun to overclock too.

I blew up a 1.2 a month or so ago too. So it's back to the 600@950

What did you use to drill that hole in there?

nice keychain but our thoughts are with bd24 and his loss! what kind of waterblock killed it?

Sorry to here about the loss. But with that new baby on the way you probably wont have any time to think about it anyway and by the time you do you'll have pushed that duron upto a gig and you'll have your 1.4.

Well at least thats how I hope it works.

I recently picked up a Duron 950, and it hits 1147 without even trying, you'll learn and love again with the Duron I promise, and think of what you'll know when you get that birdy, heck by then the horsies might be cheap 'nuff for us :)

It was a PIII slot 1 block I modified to fit onto the board. I cutt a piece of metal and ran it diagonally across the waterblock to the holes in the opposite corners of the socket. thats how I tightened it down. But I tightened one side a little to much and thats how I crushed the corner. I should have known that was coming but I thought I could get away with tightening a little more.

That was quit a long time ago though. The chip ran fine like that. Thats why I don't understand this. Oh well whatever. I think I'll have a lot of fun overclocking that Duron.
I'm just glad my dad still has this old system lying around. It's the system he had before I built him the one he's got now. So I can atleast get onto the forum. If I could'nt that would be bad.

Yeah, what did you use to drill the hole? And did you grind the pins off or leave them on. I'm gonna make me a nice key chain for myself. :)
