View Full Version : UT2004 and a disgusting amount of botters
Has anyone else noticed a disturbing rise in the number of botters in UT? I played for 2 hrs tonight, and each server I played on had at least one botter, and in the case of Bunny's Back, Bridge of Fate, there were four of them. This is getting so bad that I'm starting to get tired of playing UT.
Yeah, I've noticed the same thing, extremely lame.

Yeah botters are fairly common on UT. When I was a noob I just thought they were good.

Well, yes, the white stars do look quite flattering next to your avatar. Very slimming. :p
join in spectate and type this in the console: behindview 0
this lets you see the player from their perspective. It will allow you to really see if they are botting or not. There are some very good players that get called botters all the time. you can even recprd it and email the server admin.
If you want to watch a real bot to get an idea just add *ELF* to your buddy list and spectate one of the ELF clan play. lol
Yeah, no kidding. I'm actually called a botter quite often. In a non-egotistic way, I'm fairly good in Face Classic, and can usually take on FA and VA teams. ELF on the other hand....... :D

I've Been out of the picture with UT for a while, so I was wondering what botting was? Is it just AI? I remember seeing some back in the day in CTF, but i didnt know they were everywhere now.

Botting == hacking via aimbots.
Either I play on clean servers or am totally dense. I notice no cheating at all.

EDIT: not taht I want to go and do that, but I am curious to learn about it.
It is pretty easy to tell if someone is cheating or not hehe.
When they go from sucking and talking **** in chat to owning everyone in one shot from across the map, you know there is something fishy happening.

Also, the botting is aimbots where apparently, if they can see you anywhere on the screen and shoot its an auto kill, they can't miss.
You can tell if this is happening by looking at the chat spammed with "cheater kills someone" over and over and over so fast that nobody could actually be that good.

Yea... it's pretty easy to notice when ppl aren't tactful with their cheating.
dreIU: I've never botted before... and don't know much about it. From what I've gathered, an aimbot is like a separate client that you run simulaneously with the game. It alters what your game client sends to the server, thus allowing you to get 100% headshots all the time. Basically, if you can see the person, and you know how to click a mouse... instant kill. You don't even have to aim. I could be off base where the intracacies of aimbotting, but that's what I've heard/read about it.
Yeah, that sounds about right to me. The aimbots will usually be getting scores that range from 100 to 400 above anyone else depending on the servers. What maps and servers do you play on Gnerma? I only play CTF so maybe that's why.
Well I haven't been able to pull myself away from onslaught since the release of '04. I play on [USSR]'s server and Cain's Lair mostly. I like busy servers.

Well over the years I've developed a play style that has me valuing my life more than my score. So I don't rack up the kills too quickly but usually have a good kill to death ratio. And no that doesn't mean camping.

Yeah, I'm in that racking up the kills phase. It's hard to hide in CTF anyway because red and blue lasers are a wee bit visible against black and brown. I love only having to fire one shot to kill someone too, you have to have excellent aim and you can't rely on shrapnel to kill anyone.
Yeah, everyone says enduro and I are botters b/c we usually kill people with one shot...... there's a trick to it though. Once you figure out the technique, it is so easy to kill most people. It doesn't work on the noobs that jump around all over the place though..... those guys are so annoying, they just hit you by random luck :grrrr:

We play instagib CTF, so it's a little easier to rack up the kills if you're good...... I don't think I could play a match that's not instagib right now, I'd be killed so often b/c I'd shoot someone and expect them to be dead after one shot :D

Yeah, LOL :D He meant missing a lot though. You learn to led the target a bit and you have to constantly dodge when you're firing or moving anywhere.

You cant dodge anything while in the air. Its always best to be on ground and jump only if you can time things accordingly but, not jump at random thinking you will be harder to hit.

This philosophy would not apply to instagib due to its instaness.

What he is talking about is the people the push buttons as fast as possible and just randomly fire in any direction with the hope of hitting you. That is really annoying, because when they do hit you, it's out of blind luck. If you do that, then yes you are a noob :D

Pros jump fluidly but noobs jump around like a monkey on PCP....... they do avoid getting hit, but there is no way that they'll be able to shoot anything while they're doing it.
The trick for lots of kills (and for getting called a botter) is to jump sideways and hold the sight still.... when the sight goes over the person, then fire..... I was never able to hit anyone by actually aiming at them, but I can get Holy S*** kills in some cases by doing that trick .

I allways played instagib in 2k3, had to stay moving all the time. Maybe thats what I was thinking about. I got pretty good at side jumping and shooting. I havent played much of 2k4 though.
Never really noticed many cheaters. I mainly play ONS.

Agreed. I'm usually one of the best players when I do play.
Well, being a botter in anything other than instagib would be pointless...... you could hit people with 100% accuracy, but the other person could shoot you back as well. In instagib, you have to be a very fast shot to even have a chance at hitting a botter with AIMBOT or a trigger bot, they kill you so fast you can't even react.
About [OCG], I had considered joining them but I needed to have a mic and the full version, and by the time I had both of them I had already joined []RIP[] and I won't betray that clan...... they're some good guys and the UT2004 part of their clan is really small at the moment so we figured we'd help them out.
i play ut2k4 all the time on ONS. what i find is that on ONS there's some people who think its cool to run over your own team mates. thats what pisses me off. im in a 1 vs 1 shoot out and all of a sudden my own team mate just runs me over for no apparent reason, and the enemy lives and usually blows up the vehicle. but i do enjoy a nice clean game of ONS. not too many bots in the servers(some how they can shoot your from across the map w/ a shock rifle). i won't say im really good because that would be a lil to cocky and i probly couldn't back it up lol. i usually get in the top 2-3 in kills when i play deathmatch or ONS.
