I've formatted NTFS systems back to FAT32 many times in the past with the standard 98 boot disk.

I had a NT4 machine the guy wanted to put 98 on for his kid. 2 IDE drives. Drive C had 2 partitions and Drive D had 4 partitions. The second partition on the C was mirrored to the 3rd partition on the D.

I couldnt for the life of me get the partitions completely removed from either drive through the 98 fdisk. The only thing that I can think of is that the mirror altered the MBR or something. I ended up using the 2k setup to get them removed.

So, do you agree with my thinking? Or was it maybe something else?

Yes it will affect the MBR. I have just found this out myself. I used to have two 10Gig Fuji's in RAID-0. Took them out, and put them in another machine, and the new machine, without a RAID controller, still saw them as a 20 Gig drive that I couldn't do anything with.

Format the MBR, fdisk the drives, format the drives, and you should be set.
