I have never found the awnser.

I have an a-bit KT7a (Non-raid) With latest bios installed. I also have a SB live 5.1.

Now i know that there is problems with this combo of Mboard and SB live but most of the awnsers i have read re: compatability problems just refer to low sound quaility.

The problem i am having is during installation.

As soon as windoze detects the SB Live during install, The screen freezes.

I have tried everything that has been mentioned before (I.E. Changing PCI slots ECT) but nothing has worked.

There is a good FAQ for the ABit KT7a over @ http://www.viahardware.com perhaps that can help

I'm not sure about the KT7, but on my K7T Turbo, there was a BIOS option regarding sound blaster. I'm not sure what it is supposed to do, but my computer did the same thing yours did until I enabled it, then it worked fine. Try the BIOS for sound options.

Reserve IRQ5 is what some BIOSes do. If its crashing on SB16 Emulation, that that would be your problem.

boot into safe mode and make sure there arnt any goast drivers. Look in the device manager and delete any sound drivers.

The bios soundblaster option is to turn on soundblaster suport for on board soundblasters.
