Best you can do is edit the registry settings with in the OS with a utility or patch

hmmmm phone lines are limited to 53.3 so maybe you should try o/c'in them:)

You probably wouldn't notice a big difference because the limiting factor is probably the phone company's phone lines or their equipment.

Some ISPs will let you login to your acount twice simultaniously, and if your ISP does this, then you can have two modems working at the exact same time downladning data, resulting in a doubling of speed. You have to have 2 phone lines, 2 modems, and and ISP that supports that kind of stuff.

As for OCing the modem.... The main factors are the FCC and the telephone lines themselves. OC them first. Then the modem :D !

Their is a way to overclock your modem in the reg. to make your tranfer rate double. Here's a link to the the guide (http://www.3dgamegear.com/features/modemtweak/index.shtml). I can tell you now that it don't work like its suposed too. If you can get into the high 40kbps that'll probly be the best you can get.

sorry there is no way to oc a modem the speed is limited to the quality of the line data compression helps but not much and is enabled by default

No sir, they are NOT limited. It's the connectionon the other end that limits a connection. DSL comes through a phone line, and you can get up to 1.5MBPS with that.

And 56K is not limited to 53.3 either. Before I got my DSL, my 56K would always connect at 57000bps. Every time, guaranteed.

It all depends on your ISP's leniancy, and line conditions. If your ISP can somehow offer faster then 53.3Kbps conenction without the Federal Communication Commission learning about it, then all is well. Because "you don't know any better", you can't be blamed.

DSL doesn't use the phone line in the same way as a modem. As for your modem always conecting at 57k, that would be the speed between the modem and the serial port not the actual isp conection, if you changed the conection speed to 115kb in the modem settings it would then report that as the conection speed. you were more likely conecting between 40-50k a second.
