I've got an old 200Mhz Pentium MMX with 48MB of RAM sitting down here in my basement. I want to set up a web server on it. I duel-boot Windows 98SE and Mandrake on my main computer so I know how to use Linux OK. I tried putting Mandrake on the 200Mhz and X was so slow it wasn't even funny. I want a command line Linux distro that will allow me to easily set up a web server, and possibly an FTP server later. It also must be reletively secure. Please advice me on what Linux distro to use and any tips and/or instructions on how to set up a web server in Linux. I'm totally ignorant as to the programs and stuff you need for a Linux web server so I'll need some help.
Debian is mainly CLI and is robust and massively configurable. I also know of a special secure distro called engarde or something. I got a ~200Meg ISO off a coverdisc. If you live in the UK I could post it to you? or burn the iso itself to disc for you?

I'll just stick with Mandrake. It's working fine for now and I'm too lazy to totally reconfigure a new distro.

RedHat server is also good if you can get your hands on it

Though I have never used it this linux distro sounds like it might be helpfull, with it's 'autobuild' (compiling each program for your computer as it installs) sounds like it may take a while but it will probably be very wise for an older system.
On the other hand what I am doing is building a linux box from scratch... from the ground up. It takes a while (I've been working on it for about 15 hours) but the results so far are excelent, expecaly considering the fact that I'm using a 486sx25 for the server, I'm doing the compiling on a p233 so I can do it quickly but it's worked so far. The howto that I am using is found on:

this is a nice tutorial that is great to build a linux system. another great resource is the 'linux from scratch' home page at:
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/
Building a linux system on your own may be more work then you want to do, but for me at least it's fun.
Drop me a line if you have any questions
