do ram boosting programs actually work? if so, which is best to use?

in general, they don't work. The only thing I can see working with ram software would be to release more ram back since some apps don't clear themselves out of memory after they have been closed. Ram boosting programs, are usually just nothing but a placebo. No real improvements at all.
