So I was playing some CS:source, and suddenly it began to lag like hell, my teamspeak went lagging and everything else as well. It took one minute or something and it returned to normal. I played for a hour, and left my pc. When I came back, my internet didnt work anymore.

So I thought, ok I'm going to the router control panel using my webbrowser, IP = 192.168.2.1. But I never got to the control panel, it just didnt work anymore. All the lights on the router were still on, cables all plugged in correctly. I looked at my network settings and it appeared that the DHCP didnt work. So I rebooted, tried the other PC's but none of them could get on the router.

So I unplugged all the cables, even the power cable, put the power cable back in, reset the router, and tried again with only 1 pc plugged in. But I still couldnt get on the control panel. I tried again for 3 times, hard resetting by holding the reset button for 6 seconds, power off and on, didnt work. I tried all of my PC's again, and none of them get a IP from the DHCP (the router has built in DHCP which I'm using).

Normally, after I reset it and stuff, it should at default settings, so I can acces it thru the 192.168.2.1 IP adress. This time nothing works.

It a EDIMAX broadband router, BR-6104. In my opinion it's just broken. What do u guys think?

hm, I already it, although 'fixed' is not the good word. I just tried again after 30 minutes and it works again. I think it's just a piece of crap that needs to be thrown out of the windows very soon. If it does this one more time I get a good one.

It could be that a chip is failing with heat. I would look at getting a new one and in the mean time, make sure the unit gets good air flow.

I agree w/Don on the heat issue. Make sure you have good air flow, maybe point a small 8in personal fan on it, or take the cover off. You could even go so far as to mount a heat sync on the chipset to help.

mod it!! cut a few holes, add a few fans, put some cathodes inside it and then post some poor quality pics of it in the dark!

Depending on the type of router, you don't really have to mod it, just stick a nice portable fan up there and it will cool it effectively enough till you are able to diagnose what the problem is or come up with the money to buy a new one. Of course, you could always use one of the DIY jobs and make your own router using an old computer.

yeah thanks for the replies. It worked for a week or something then started acting funny again. I'm going to get a new one I already made a thread about it. But cool idea of modding it, I might do that with my new one LMAO!
