I set up a friends' K6-2 550 on folding the other day and I installed EM on it the other day and it's taking 1:10:05 per frame on a BBAlphaUAHT.... What gives? I thought this box would fold fast enough. It's a K6-2 533 OC'ed to 550 (I upgraded it from a Cyrix 333 last year and I stuck a nice big generic socket A HSF on it) on a PCChips board that uses an SIS chipset.... I don't get it... my little brothers' K6-2 450 folds just fine... Might it be missing an important driver? I don't think it would be a memory issue, he's got 160 MB of PC100 RAM... any ideas?

I've got a k6-2 366 chip that easily folds units within the time limit. I think it takes about 33 hours for the biggest protein out right now. The time limit according to EM is 72 hours.

I've got two k6-2/500s folding now, one with 128mb ram and one with 196mb, and they both complete 5 wu in about 30 hrs, running Win2K. That's about 18 minutes per frame. You might want to make sure the mobo isn't throttling back on the speed due to overheating. Check the BIOS to see if that option is bult in. These K6s do run hot, so I'm running mine with the cases open.

I think the earlier suggestion of a background program could be the problem. Did you check the system over. Check the available HDD space, current status of the HDD, etc? What OS?

You should also try having your friend run scandisk and defrag (if they haven't in a while). A disk error or bad segment will still allow the client to run but everything slows to a craw.

Isn't troubleshooting fun? :)

Well, Norton AV is running in the background, along with the Winamp agent and the Realplayer agent but thats not much...

I'll check the clock speed throttling thing.... hopefully thats not the case.

I also try to convince him to defrag/scandisk.... I'll let you guys know what it is.

For the time being I bumped it to normal priority since he really doesnt use his computer that much...
