My friends and I are completely baffled with my computer. I have used both winblows 98 se and 2k yet something horribly wrong happens with both when it comes to video and sound. I have used several clean installs for both and have dled all the service packs and proper drivers but I'm still getting major problems. For 98 video either freezes or blue screens and 2k goes into a feedback loop. Now for sound i just lose it, it won't play anything for more than 2 minutes. We have tried everything we could think of but it was to no avail. As for using ME, it won't load up properly in mine (go figure). I also unclocked everything to make sure that wasn't the problem but the problems keep happening. I am currently running:

win2k
1 gig amd t-bird @ 1.78v
abit kt7a raid
300watts antec psu
192 mb toshiba 100mhz ram
elsa gladiac mx 32mb
40 gig ibm ata100 7200rpm/15 gig maxtor ata66 5400 rpm
Turtle beach montgeo quadzilla sound card

Any help is greatly appreciated cause everyone I know just doesn't know how to fix it. Might have to go with a mac and that great os x :D jk

Have you tried removing the sound card or moving it to another PCI slot? I've had lockup problems previously with a Turtle Beach sound card on a CUV4X and a CUBX...ended up replacing it with a SB, and the lockups disappeared.;)

I'm beting this is either an IRQ problem or Hardware- hardware or software- hardware compatbility problem. U might have to get a new sound card and vid card. try borrowing someone elses stuff and pluging it in with fresh installs of windows.

How bout your RAM, have you tried some different? I dunno if you CPU is 200 or 266, but since your board is 200/266 are you running it at 133? Just a thought.

Or try something redduc900 said but skip every other pci slot.
If you have 4 slots use 1&3 or 2 &4 and so one. This worked for me on my other machine. It has something to do with pci steering.

Thank you all for the advice and I've tried most of it, save for buying new parts (I'm a college student on a tight budget). None of it seemed to work and thankfully my friend gave me a reason to reformat into 98 se because he did something to lock me out of win2k. Still don't know what he did and after a couple of hours trying to bust in I simply gave up. I guess I'll just have to wait for 2k when I have enough money to get new parts. Thanks again.
