Many of you have prolly already seen me askin q'z about my vid card. Now I gots anotha one. I have a voodoo 4 4500 and I just put a nice sized hsf on the proc. to keep it cool. Now, the heat sink/fan stays cool unless I unplug the fan, then it gets a little toasty(like toasting the skin on ur fingers). I dont have a probe so I cant tell you the exact temps. Now for the question, when the fan is running the hsf stays luke warm, but the back of the card still gets flesh melting hot. What temp should I rely on? And is it safe to overclock?

if its too hot the card should crash 3d and stuff like that and show artifacts, if not it should be fine
Install a 4 inch case fan, if you dont already have one. It should help keep the card a bit cooler. 3DFX cards all ran really hot and need some pretty good ventalation. Also, most of the 3DFX cards were of high enough quality to take pretty good OCing punishment
i know alot of paople have been insatlling heatsink/fans on the back of their card. the only problem is that there are alot of transistors on the back and there is only like a 1cmx1cm openspot to put something. i know that one guy made a 1cmx1cm copper plate just to put on that area(used thermal glue to stick it there)and he put the stock heatsink/fan on top of that copperplate with thermal glue. this was on a v5 so he did it for both processors. on the front he had cpu fans on the chips and like 4 chipset fans on the ram. i say u should put ram sinks on the ram and do that thing on the back. only oc it to about 185(vsas were made to run at 183) because any higher u will usually get lower performance because it can not do as much in a clock cycle. u might not see and artifacts or anything, but that is what i heard.
