I'd like for everyone to take a guess on how far this chip will go on air, and then I'll post the results. Sorry I don't have anything to give way, except the cheap HSF that came with some stuff, and hey if you want it you got it :)
OK, the specs:
Just picked up
A1400 AMS3C
AYHJA 0126 TPIW
Y6539030813
EPOX 8K7A+
512 MB Stick of NANYA DDR
460w PSU
2 40GIG MAXTOR (will run in RAID 0)
DLINK NIC (for DSL)
VISIONTEK GF3
No other cards will be placed in the system, until I have my set overclock.
I have two coolers:
Dynatron Copper Microfin Heat Sink DC1206BM w/Delta 38cfm
(I'm going to try this one first because I haven;t used it before)
and
Swiftech MC462-A w/ Sanyo Denki fan
So, get in your predicitons now, let's see who makes the best guess, I'm curious to see who can guess the closes MHZ :) My personal guess is 1687mHZ, but my guess is just that I assure you. I will be going with the highest stable MHZ, multiplier or FSB, I don't care :)
1.55ghz, is this a competition or something :)

I will take 1.6 since 1.5 is too low

If you are meaning a stable and usable system with that setup and I did not hear any mention of case cooling I will say 1.466. If you can keep the temps down somehow with this VERY hot chip I may go with 1.533. Be sure to let us know how it goes.

I think in order for us to make any accurate predictions we need to know the ambient temps and what kind of case cooling your using. These chips are really susceptible to heat I've lost over a 100 MHz of oc over the summer due to the high temps( can't wait for winter again).
My 1.33 stable at 1.53 with load temps under 44C as soon as I go over 44C I have to go back to 1420 to have her run stable.
My guess 1.53 but if you can keep the temps low I'd say 1580 to 1600.

There are a few variables, and I knew there would be lots a things that you guys would have to remind me of. Sooo..
I will leave the covers off this system. That should eliminate case fans, as a variable, and ambient temp is a fairly constant 77 degrees Far.
Anything else, oh yeah, for the real picky ppl I will use AS2. If I've left anything out lemme know!

If you keep the cpu voltage under 2.0 1600mhz.

OK, if what you are saying is no case fans and the side covers off, stock H/S and overclocking, I will change my prediction and say 750mhz. This is the speed of the Duron you will have to buy for that cooked 1.4 chip.
OK, enough of the messing around, I hope that you have read the beginners guide in the front of this site and know what you are doing with this pricey setup you are talking about.

I want to tell you right now.... do not listen to any of these people, DO NOT, they are settung you up for possibly a big tragedy, I myself have a kick@** system but I was blessed with a crappy chip, they are so totaly random that you won't believe it untill you see it. I have been burning for a while now and it won't pass 1574ish stable, and my cooling is excelent, even when my room temps are above 30C (Yesterday it was actaully 33C) I still only toped off at 44C I got one strong and very load baby in there but the cpu won't budge.
So what I want to say is not to have such high hopes because it's really down to luck, much less than your cooling I think.

Guys I think you need to read his whole post cause at the end he tells us what HSF he is going to use and they aint that cheap.

Train I don't think anyone in here is telling him that his chip will run at about anything faster then you have yours at.
Low temps are the key to any good overclock. With temps you have 1574 is a very good oc. Now if you had a watercooling setup and you could keep those temps around 30 to 35 and up your voltage I bet that baby would fly, and that's the kind of cooling your going to need to get much more out of that chip I'm afraid

Your cooling is what makes the O/C more than everything but your chip. But with good cooling I have seen crap chips go high, my chip's average O/C is 1.45, I proved them wrong.

ok it has been long enough what are the results?!
I don't see why you wounldn't get 1.6. Just remember to watch your temps!!!

I hope people will not take this to serious, and read to much into it. I am not a n33b to overclocking, but I'm not claiming to be a pro either. I just picked up a new chip, looked at the cpu dbase, and wanted to see what the general opinion here was in relation to my past experiences, and compared to the dbase.
I strated this thread for fun, so guys If I left any variables out, I'm sorry, but please remind me, and I'll post them. I had my first 1.4 at 1703 mHZ. (Obviously there are loads of details here), but I'm not going to think for a second that this one will do that.
Again this is all for fun and learning.
OH Yeah someone mentioned the vcore, I will go as high as this mobo, and temps will allow.
I will post some results asap, gotta work today, see you guys later.
Killem....
i just wanna say... best of luck to ya m8!
you have a good head, you bought good stuff.
obviously either
1.)not a n00b
2.) you listen/learn well from advice/articles
either way bro, you're gonna do just fine :D
i'm hopin' ya hit 1700 or better and give us the screens to drool over :)

Now that's the kind of post that will make me work my butt off to provide some killer results! I'll be home in a few, and let ya know what I have! Thanks for that pump - up. It made my day :)

For anyone that's interested:
I just booted to stock 1.4
MBM is reading 1396mHZ mobo=71f chip=98 running SETI
I'm using the "El-Cheapo" Stock Hsf for kicks before I move on to the bad boyz
I'm gonna go with the fsb, vcore, and then multi
I will stop when temps go over 145f
:) Cya in a bit!

It's ok I'm fine for heatsinks, plus there would be the shipping to england. I was just comenting that that is what will hold this chip back

Just a small update for every1
I'm @ 11x140@1.94v
mobo is 71f cpu is 113 as reported by MBM
I have been running SETI for about an hour, and I'm going to bed to let it run overnight. Again this is still with the stock HsF, I will put one of the others on in the morning after I go as high as this baby will fly with the current setup.
BTW that's 1640 mHZ for everyone that doubted the stock hsf :), without even a hiccup ;)
I must say I'm pretty impressed myself though. I wonder what the other two hsf will bring the temps down by?

Oh yeah, I gotta mention this and I'm not being a smart a$$, but this is one of the reasons I started this thread. The only person that suggested anything close to what it looks like I'm going to reach is raerbaer with 1680 and n2 [hall mon.] with 1700. Now, I'm at 1640 now without a burp, but who knows I may not be able to budge it from there, but not likely ;)
See you guys later
:D :D :D
Anyone wanna change thier guess?

I'm goin to guess 1.75ghz its a bit high, but hey! this is for fun!
I hope you get that high, that would be awseome for air cooling.

Well congrats on the O/C. I was reluctant at first to say anything high cuase you said you were gonna use the cheap H/S. I have no idea why you would risk your CPU for these tests with that H/S. I would just put the Swifty on see what that does. I would think that you have reached your limit, but then again you may have that premo chip that people get once in awhile. All chips are not created equal and many chips suprise myself and many others.
When you quote temps please choose (c) cause this is what a majority of us use. It will help us compare results. On the topic of results I am curious what that bada*s chip did in a CPU benchmark, like Sandra. I am trying to see if a 1.4ghz chip at 1.6ghz is the same as a 1ghz chip at 1.6ghz. Thanks man and once again congrats on the O/C!!
I need to earn more money to get better stuff to join you guys at those nosebleed high MHz. drooooooooooooooooooooling over your MHz. ARGH!!! Still slow!
11x140? thats only 1540 surely? which is wrong the fsb, mult or the cpu speed, 1540 would be very close to my estimate :)
