View Full Version : Making a shim... (with pic)
Hi everyone, Iīm making a shim for my waterblock and would like to hear some opinions about it. Iīve read a little about non-conductive shims so I chose a piece of old PCB (the traslucent type) to work on. I removed some copper traces that were on it and sanded until it was almost as thin as a de-capped K6-2 core. Itīs not finished yet so if someone thinks I did something wrong I can still fix it (or make a new one, it didnīt take long to me). I hope the pic is clear, thanks in advance. :)

looks like you have put a lot of thought into it, can't go wrong when you do that, just remember the most importnat ting, it must be flat, if it isn't it is worst than not having a shim.
Thanks, and yes, Iīm being very careful with this as I donīt want to ruin my soon-to-come new chip (all this stuff is more expensive in Argentina). Do you think I chose well the material? (I think itīs some kind of fiberglass). :)

I hear masking tape with lots of layers next to the cpu works really good. From my experience it does. Just make sure you dont get to many layers otherwise its bad. JBweld all along the sides, letting it dry, another layer and get it so that you cant crush corners or the core is nice also. I did that and it turned out very nice.
