Ok guys, I was playing around with my computer last night and when i ran a virus scan, it locked up at around the 6,000th file so I have 2 sticks of ram, ram stick "A" and ram stick "B" so i took out stick "B" and left "A" in there by itself (each stick is a 512mb stick) and i booted my computer up with only stick "A" in it and i ran the virus scan again and on about the 20,000th file it locked up, so i turned off my computer and put stick "B" in the slot by itself and booted up ran the virus scan and it ran through the whole virus scan without a hitch, i dont have a floppy so i havent been able to run memtest86 yet, i was just wondering from the diagnosis if this would seem like a memory problem? and one thing i noticed when i was booting up last night too is when both sticks are in the computer their speed is ddr333 at 166mhz and when both are run single by themselves they both run ddr400 at 200mhz so that kinda makes me raise an eye brow, but is that supposed to be normal? the 2 sticks are corsair value select and the other is a PNY value series, and i was thinking of going to corsair or OCZ dual channel 2X512mb kit from newegg, but i want to make sure that the problems i am experiencing are from my ram.

I you have a CD-RW drive, you can write a Memtest86 image to a CD and boot from that CD.

are both sticks identical and ddr400? And is the 2nd stick new or something, or has it always been 166MHz together? And have you tried since that last post in normal mode with both sticks?
